The Chargers released LaDainian Tomlinson today. I think his days as an every-down back are over, but he may be a good 3rd down back for the right team. But it would be hard for me to imagine him in another uniform besides San Diego.

As we've come to expect from you, another stupid statement.  IF you think Tomlinson has been done for 5 years, then you're discounting his back-to-back NFL rushing titles in 06 and 07, his MVP season in 06 when he set an NFL record with 31 TDs and his 1400+ rushing yards in 05.

in another uniform!  Generally speaking, however, once running backs lose that step, they never get it back.  If Tomlinson wants to continue playing, he had better get ready to accept a significant pay cut.

Not surprising. Running backs are beaten and battered for most of their 20's. Then, it’s usually "thanks very much and don’t let the door hit you on the way out." Shaun Alexander went from NFL MVP season in 2005 (age 28) to being virtually out of the league by 2008. The problem for the Chargers is that LT wants to be paid like the HOF he was throughout the 2000's and the Chargers prob. want to pay him per his projected production in 2010. The two side’s prob. won’t be able to come to a consensus (unless LT acquiesces)

The next move is LT's. If he wants to swallow his pride and take a lesser deal to keep playing (i.e. Emmitt Smith with the Cardinals) someone will sign him b/c he can still play (maybe not at a Pro Bowl level but he can definitely help). If he insists on HOF money then he may be forced to take a year off (i.e. Marvin Harrison with the Colts) and then it will become increasingly difficult for him to get back into the playing mix.

Sammy Baugh or Benny Friedman, but I've read an awful lot about them and know what they accomplished in their careers.

the Heisman trophy.  Nothing against Hornung, but Brown should have gotten it.  Not only that, but he wound up 5th in the voting.  It's called PREJUDICE!
