Hi,
I am an avid tennis fan and just looking for like minded people. The US open starts in a few days, who are your favorites?
Anyone attending the open?
Cheers
A man older than food named 1rob to join you shortly I'm sure. He's a good egg. Be easy on him..........he considers himself an avid Tennis player also but he's old enough to have played with wooden rackets
at the 'HOME'? smile Just settled down with some warm Terrapin Soup for lunch, which
is what the Big 10 is looking forward to adding to their menu next year-lol
I must admit I've played with wood in the past and white balls as well. ha ha
Predictions-Djokovic and Nadal are the two best men and Serena and Azarenka are the two best women-Don't see Murray, Sharapova or Fed being factors-Amusing that Maria fired Jimmy Conners as her coach after 1 match-Del Potro is a dark horse and will cause trouble-I went every year to the OPEN for 94 to 06 and it was a great time-but the security and bathroom lines became too much of a hassle-
Somebody mentioned Steffi Graf below and how nice her legs were-Jim Courier had a great line on her 'The best body in women's tennis....from the nose down''
met her in Florida once-great player and a sweet person too-later, Gang-1rob...out 8-)
Gotta like Serena to win the womens draw...nobody can beat her when she is on. She will go down as one of the top 5 womens players of all time.
Djokovic for the men, but I would like to see Nadal win. Federer will probably hang it up after this year. He was great, but is barely top 10 now (not that being #8 is bad, but for a guy who was #1 for so long it is not where he wants to end his career).
I went to the open once several years ago. I must say, Steffi Graf had the best legs I have ever seen on a woman!!!
Hey,
I am a huge Federer fan. This year has been a disaster to say the least. I am going with Williams too even though she inexcusably lost the Cincinnati open on Sunday.
Please God, anybody but Nadal for the men. I detest that guy and that's saying it mildly. Anyway, I haven't given up on Federer yet. He is not hanging it up just yet. He has already signed up for tournaments in January.
Serena is already top 5 and some pros make the argument that she is the greatest.
I feel Djokovic may be a bit burnt out. He has had a few too many losses this year. Nadal goes away for 7 months, comes back and starts winning everything in sight.
I know I sound like sour grapes but that guy.......
Anyway, nice of you guys to respond.

Greatest of all time is Martina Navratilova....men or women.....hands down. 59 grand slam titles (18 singles, 31 doubles and 10 mixed doubles). She revolutionized the womens game into what we see today.
The mens draw is a crapshoot. Nadal could win it all or lose 1st round. Andy Murray has that first grand slam monkey off his back so he may emerge. I am partial to Nadal...I met him once and he was very nice to me and my nephew who is a big tennis player.
Now that the draw is out, what are your predictions? Nadal's draw is a joke, as if he needed any help. Seem Federer can't catch a break nowadays.
I watched the draw ceremony and it seem random but I can't quite understand why Federer is always drawn in Nadal's quarter.
Djokovic has a tough draw (maybe the toughest).Murray may not get past Berdych, we shall see. The media is trying to make a big do about the potential matches between Sloane and Serena, Lisicki and Serena.
If Serena is on, no one is beating her, plus she never forgets losses easily especially at the slams. Sharapova is still paying for the 2004 Wimbledon loss.
Your thoughts if any?.LOL
LOL, thanks. I am an armchair pro at the moment. I don't play. Wooden rackets huh? He must be buddies with Rod Laver.
I am with you on Roger. Not a fan of Sabine to be honest. But I can understand why you like her
Why I think you like her or why I am not a fan

I am a lurker on a TT Tennis (a forum) and a lot of guys think she is hot. I usually read comments about her smile, thighs etc, and she is blonde. I just assumed you were similarly lovestruck.
I don't really like her crying on court and she is a bit of a head case. I like the way she sometimes smiles at herself when she misses a shot, but I won't say I am a real fan.
I actually watch male tennis more than female tennis.

I like both Men's and Women's Tennis.. I like Men's for power and Women's for aesthetics. I bet you can tell that I'm not a big fan of the Williams sisters...Too much power for my taste...Too much muscle..
That being said the Future of Men's Tennis and Women's Tennis in US looks rather bleak once the Williams sister retire. At least in Women's tennis there is some hope with Christina McHale and Sloane Stevens. But Men's Tennis is in dire straits. At one time US dominated the world scene when the likes of Conners, Sampras, Agassi and McEnroe played..

Yeah,I knew that had to be the reason. I actually like Venus more than Serena, but she has health issues now and it is really painful to watch her play now.
Too many headcases in women's tennis. I watch only when my favorites are playing or I am so bored. Men's tennis is way more interesting. Mchale hasn't done anything this year. The up and comers would be Sloane, Jamie Hampton, Madison Keys and maybe Lauren Davis.
US men's tennis is indeed in a bad shape. The youngsters,Sock, Harrison, Kudla etc don't seem to be able to make a breakthrough.
I enjoy watching the Bryan brothers but they are getting old too.

Bryan brothers are like the Rodney Dangerfield of Tennis, because doubles tennis is Rodney Dangerfield.. LOL..
I told you I was an avid fan, didn't I? I spend a lot of time watching tennis. I root for the Bryan brothers all the time except in some rare instances like when they played the french guys at the Roland Garros final. I thought it would be nice for the Frenchmen to win at home.
