the Alamo Bowl.  He gets an $800,000 bonus if he coaches in that game.  This is getting REAL ugly!

had been disciplined a few days before because of poor effort, something assistant coaches said had been present during his time at Tech. The kid has one story, the coach has a different one. The team doctors and other players all seem to back Leach on this. We'll probably never know what happened and if Tech is forced by a judge to let Leach coach in the bowl game, they'll probably fire him soon afterwards.

the outcome, I agree that Leach's days at TT are numbered.  Having said that, I'm not at all sure how quickly he would hook up elsewhere, as he has a reputation of being "out of the mainstream."

Donnan was there for several years after Georgia canned him and hired Mark Richt.

reading, just about everyone involved in this supports Leach.  The truth will come out in time, I suppose.

and that they were just looking for an excuse.  James gave them one, so they jumped on it.  As far as I can tell, there hasn't been enough time (or inclination) to carefully look into this, and when Leach tried to get the courts involved, TT simply fired him.  Now, I will admit that Leach is a loose cannon of sorts, but his claim that no evidence, etc. was brought against him, if true, does not put TT in a good light.

I think it boils down to this:  Leach had an exceptional year last year, and TT had to pay big bucks to keep him in a rather protracted contract dispute.  Now they realize that they very likely overpaid him, and they want out.  This James thing gave them the excuse they needed, even though there is some evidence building up that these incidents are NOT what James claimed them to be.  At this point I don't think anyone knows where the facts lie, except to say that TT may have pulled the trigger a bit too quickly.  But sticking to the traditions of the old Wild West, it seems like a case of shoot first, and ask questions later!

In February, Leach and the school agreed to a five-year, $12.7 million contract. According to terms of the deal, Leach was due a $800,000 bonus on Dec. 31 if he were still the head coach at Texas Tech.

$400,000 for each remaining year on the contract. Of course, Tech will probably try to find way to keep from paying him because of the allegations, but based on the flimsy evidence, I think any judge worth his/her salt will tell them to shut up and pay up.

said that he was being "terminated for cause," which negates the $400K per year buyout. The lawyers are going to get rich on this one.

They wanted him out of there!

It is not good to have your coach in a pissing match with an analyst on Extra Sports Postioning Network!!  Bad for recruiting

is a stubborn, egotistical guy, and from the viewpoint of TT, he WAS insubordinate.  However, a good case could be made (and undoubtedly will by Leach's lawyer) that TT set him up for this.  Perhaps Leach's ego got in the way of settling this quietly, but perhaps this whole situation shouldn't have come up in the first place.  What, in fact, actually took place between Leach and Adam James has yet to be proven and resolved, and IMHO the University may have reacted a bit too quickly.  However, in time we'll all know the true story.  In the meantime, I think Leach may be in the job market for a longer period than he currently anticipates.
