If memory serves, AFL ref's wore similar jerseys back in the early 60's when they first started playing.

Mook is correct

It is the 50th Anniversary for the AFL.  So they are throwing it back LOL.

The only difference is the original refs wore red uniforms, not orange.  But will be sporting the orange uniforms in throw back games.

Lots of offense and very little defense. Best player I saw then was Lance Alworth, otherwise known as Bambi.

IMHO, the best player in the old AFL was Joe Namath.

Thanks to him, the two leagues merged right after Super Bowl III.
