Rex realized he made a mistake inserting Sanchez...

Obviously, at that stage of the game (early 4th quarter) there was absolutely no logical reason why Sanchez was in the game. At this point, the Jets know what they have in Sanchez. 4 years of tape should tell them everything they know. Putting him into the game at that juncture would show nothing. I think Rex realized the stupidity of his decision to have Mark in there. He tried to gloss it over as quickly as he could. When the media was relentless in questioning his ridiculous decision, Rex became agitated and tried to bring humor to the room...didn't work.

The Jets are not making the playoffs this year. So, they need to use the 2013 season to evaluate Smith and determine if he is their QB of the future. Whether he needs to play all 16 games, 12 games, or 8 games, is up to the management of the Jets. By the end of this year, they must have an idea if Smith can be counted on to start in 2014 and beyond, or does the team need to go in another direction at QB

After watching rookie Geno Smith hand the the starting job to Mark Sanchez with a horrible performance, Ryan put Sanchez into the game with just under 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter, which meant Sanchez was playing behind backup offensive lineman. Sanchez gets sacked on the first play, then later is driven into the ground on his throwing shoulder. Afterwards, Ryan got pretty testy when questioned about the wisdom of that move. He even made a show of turning his back on one reporter while answering a question. Can't have a pre-season without a little Jets drama!
