A one year contract for 6 million is a fair offer and as Hank Steinbrenner says "It is only business"

It is starting to look like Jeter will be playing for the Baltimore next year.

Play ball Jeter and get with the program about your worth aka 6 Million dollars.

Or are you so used to being wrong that you can't tell when someone is actually trying to agree with you?

Relatively speaking, he may deserve to make more than that just because of the amount of butts he puts in the seats every night. He is the face of the Yankees these days and has been for a while.

When exactly was Jeter offered a one year contract for six million dollars?  There has been NO financial offer made; only opening statements from Steibrenner, Cashman and Jeter's agent. Yes, Steinbrenner said they have a business to run, but please, let's not be ridiculous. If the Yankees were actually TRYING to insult Jeter, they would offer him a better contract than one year, 6 million. If they wanted to low ball him, they would prob. start at 2 years 15-20 million. You have no idea how much Jeter is worth to the Yankee franchise... it goes way beyond his performance on the field. He puts fans in the seats and as he approaches 3,000  hits, the buzz around the Yankees will be unbelievable. All those Yankee-ographies and specials on the YES network (again, focusing on players like Jeter) bring millions in revenue. You are talking about an ICONIC Yankee who will one day have a plaque in Monument Park. There is NO way he is playing for anyone else next year and there is no way he will only be paid 6 million dollars. Running a business is one thing; loosing your meal ticket is something else.

I'm not a Yankee fan, a Derek Jeter fan, or a fan of ridiculous salaries, but anybody who can't give credit where credit is due shouldn't call themself a fan at all.

Jeter has proven himself a class act over and over again, even surrounded by ballplayers who are... less than classy. He is a superior player, a charismatic captain, and he will walk into the hall of fame on the first ballot as soon as he is ready.

If the Yankees offer him anything less than a salary commensurate with those facts, they are idiots, and even if the numbers he puts up are less than all-star caliber, he has still earned the respect of being paid like the star he is.

Jeter can come to Baltimore and play for my O's.  However, NYY are damn fools if they let him go wear another team's uniform.  Jeter is the main reason many baseball fans tolerate the hated Yankees.  He has class and is a leader.  As everyone else has noted, he fills the seats and sells season tickets.  Yankees will do well to pay him whatever he wants and hope he comes back to manage one day -- and fill seats again.

during the 2010 season and .231 during the ALCS against Texas. 22 Million (2010 salary) for those stats I don't think so.

Everybody thinks George is running the Yankees no it's his two sons now so let the penny pinching begin.

what will happen, but if George taught us one thing it was this: "Winning is everything, anything else is bullshit." That's what puts butts in the seats at Yankee Stadium. Loosing empties them. I saw a couple of games during the playoffs where the Yankees were blown out and those seats were empty before the game was over. That's what motivated George to pay the money he did and if he thouht anyone was better than his current shortstop he wasn't above playing, "Let's make a deal."

If management thinks they can buy better talent to take Jetter's place they should do it. If not pay Jetter the lowest amount possible to keep him. Jetter need to bargin for the best deal he can get where ever he can get it.

And that's all thats going here.

and Jetter will last in the memories of the New York fans about as long as piss on a hot rock in Arizona if management comes up with a great shortstop who can bat 295+ and run like a scared deer. Jetter knows it and so does management and they both know what the other is thinking.

and then you claim I "have not figured it out", what is there to figure out, either you can't fucking read, or you think I "have my head up my ass" for agreeing with you. Which is it, genius?

What's there to figure out? The fact that you are either an idiot or an asshole? I don't think I much care which one you are anymore. If you were either extremely drunk last night, or just took some stupid pills and are back to yourself today, I will understand. Otherwise, Fuck off!!!

As the chief Yankee hater here-based on longevity-let me add my 2 cents-Certainly Jeter had an off year and is no longer worth 20 plus million a year, IMHO-but he is the heart of the Yankees and one class act-He does put butts in the seats and is approaching 3000 hits-I don't feel the Yankees will let him go, nor should they-I'd expect him to end up with a 10 million plus a year contract, which he deserves-Right now, it appears to be posturing and negotiating on the part of the Steinbrenners-
and I'd like to add a special comment for Jeter, who lives here in Tampa-He's been known to stop during a meal here and sign stuff for kids until all are taken care of-he is a great ambassador for the game and I wish him only the best (even if he is an effin' YANKEE-smile) 1rob  8-)

You really do not have a clue do you.
It has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with you agreeing with me, not even close. You are so far off base it is unbelievable.lol
It is just amazing how clueless you are on this, and to come unglued because you cannot figure it out is just pathetic.
For the record I was not and am not drunk and do not do pills of any kind, nor under the influence of anything. Perhaps it is you who needs to dry out.

Well I’ve had enough of your childishness for now, I have more important things to do so go ahead and put your negative and misguided spin on it and have the last word.

Just  my opinion, I'm thinking along the lines of 12 - 15 million for 4 maybe 5 years.

as for the 3,000 hits i think Jeter wans to do it as a YANKEE, and finish his playing career as a YANKEE as much as the YANKEES want him to do both as a YANKEE.

Yes a class act, on and off the field.

Thank you

why the hell would we be logging in here everyday. Get along, and miss all the fun. Go over to you regional board and post "Nice picture" if you want to get along.

The Yankees need to pay Jetter what he's worth on the field as a SS and that's for the good of the game. If Jetter needs charity there are plenty of corners in NY where he can set up a business.
