than what he showed in Boston. He took it like a man when Boston let him go, so I guess I can give him one more chance.  Otherwise, he'll be on the golf course a lot more. Meanwhile, how bout Jamie Moyer last night in Philly. He really took it to the Diamondbacks. Lookin' dam good.

after last season, nothing left to prove.  He will just tarnish his image if he continues to play.  Jim Brown and Sandy Koufax went out on top.  It is sad modern day athletes can't do the same.

Complete game dominance.  Helluva deal they made for him, IMHO.  Now if only the Phillies can figure out who kidnapped Brad Lidge, they could be heading for at least a repeat appearance in the World Series!

general rule, whereas Brett Favre is a classical example of the usual case.

From what I saw of the Red Sox highlights while John was with them, it looked like it wasn't his velocity that was the problem but more so the location of his pitches. His slider is still "biting" like crazy and don't forget, he's coming off of major surgery on that arm/shoulder. He's always kept himself in great shape so it's not like he's a guy with a berr belly out there trying to earn a living.
I hope he does great with the Redbirds cause John is nothing but a class act!

Not against the Yankees, it didn't.  They belted him all over the yard to start that series, and it was kind of sad to see such a great pitcher reduced to cannon fodder that evening.  I say kind of, because he wearing the wrong uniform.  I was delighted to see the Yanks sweep that series, and if JS has nothing left in the tank, the Yanks are the wrong team to show that to...

As for his being signed by the Cards, they have been pulling away in the NL central the past week, so maybe they can afford to take a chance, and see if he has anything left.  The NL is weaker than the AL offensively, so maybe he can still get the pitchers out...

Like I said, all about location. A slider in the wrong area of the strike zone will get hammered just like a hanging curveball.
