Mayweather is an intelligent business man, not a brave fighter.

If he had fought  Manny five years ago, Mayweather  would have lost hundreds of millions and not have the nickname "Money".

Mayweather  chickened out in the past  when challenged by  Pacquino,  because Mayweather is in it for money and fame, not for guts and glory.
IMO   Mayweather has a 50/50 chance of winning the fight now, five years ago he would have had a 2% chance of a win

Ali was a Brave Warrior among Great  Gladiators, never backing down from a challenge.
Mayweather  picked his  fights carefully, looking for bouts where he had big odds to win.

I'm glad they are finally fighting, I hope Mayweather doesn't break a fingernail and cancel. or run from Manny the whole fight. That would be disappointing even if Manny wins.

This fight should have happened five years ago. Both, fighters are still great, but not as great as they were half a decade ago. This is why I have abandoned boxing for the ufc. In the ufc at least the best fighters actually fight the best fighters, while in their prime.

This may be true now, but certainly wasn't true around the time I stopped watching UFC. UFC scoring has always given too much emphasis on ground control, whether or not anything is achieved on the ground (admittedly this might not be the case now, but it certainly was 5 years ago). As such, all you needed to do was a) be a wrestler and b) win the first round, and then every decision was yours. Wrestlers and their skill set were scored way too highly by UFC judging.

Boring.

I miss the days of Pride and Dream and even latter day Pancrase - fights are stood up all the time, it's not nearly enough to just settle for control on the ground. BJJ has a higher emphasis, and due to the popularity of K-1 in Japan the number of kickboxers/strikers is way higher than in the UFC. Wrestlers are a lot harder to find. Sure some Japanese MMA is silly (Jose Canseco - yes, THAT Jose Canseco - vs Hong Man Choi, Minowaman vs Zuluzinho, that kind of thing, Genki Sudo in general, Shinya Aoki's fight that was one round of kickboxing and one round of MMA against some dude I forget), but it is rarely if ever boring. I don't know if times have changed, but the same could not be said of the UFC when I stopped.

Hi there, Quad,
I heartily disagree with your assessment that Floyd is a ''coward'' or likely would have lost to Manny 5 years ago. Floyd is one of the bigger a holes on the planet, but is the best boxer, in my view, that ever laced them up. There is a reason there is an '0' by his record and he will beat Manny on May 2.  He's got a 5 inch reach advantage and is naturally bigger than Manny, whom I a fan of, but beating Floyd ain't happening. Floyd has easily kicked Marquez, who relieved Manny of his senses, which may still be in the stratosphere, and had me worrying about Manny's health. Floyd has fought everyone, despite your assertions. Canelo Alvarez was bigger, younger and a definite threat-Floyd handled him easily. Canelo, I believe, is too big for Manny and would kick his butt as well. I like the judges here and thankfully incompetent morons like C J Ross have been removed from assessing big time fights in Nevada.
Anything can happen in sports and if you're a gambler, nothing is a lock-but for me, this is the closest thing to it and my biggest wager EVER is on Mayweather. Those who question Floyd's skills are going to end up poorer come May 2.

BTW, how did my Duke Blue Devils end up this year? lol
Well, you hate the Yankees too, so you can't be ALL bad        smile

have a great week      1rob....out    8-)

I'll admit Duke won fair and square  this year becoming Champions with  skill and determination, when I believed  they would be lucky to make it to the final four.
When I posted the "Best Memes Duke referees beating Wisconsin"  I was kidding,  I found a link where  unhappy losers were making excuses, plus I was directing  sarcasm  toward  marikod's rant about referees giving a game to UCLA.
Well all I can say congratulations to you this year, with hope Duke has worse luck next year.:-D

I don't like Duke but I wouldn't put my money against them.

Same with the fight with Pacquino and Mayweather I don't see enough of a probability to win with either one, to  put my money down,  even if I get odds.

I enjoy watching old fights of great champions. Quite often great fighters fight too long and their reputation suffers from lack of training, too much partying, etc.
I believe both fighters in this bout will be training more than ever, even though they are long past middle age of their career .

No matter who wins, I   hope it's a real fight, not a boring fight with two fighters ready to retire, like the fight between  the Champion partying fool ,Duran, "no mas", and another Great champion, turned track star, Leonard.

Clearly, some rich chardonnay drinking dandy paid off the refto call goal tending on UCLA’s desperation heave that even the announcer called “wide right.” That ball had no chance of going thru the net. Now SMU and 74 year old Larry Brown are out and UCLA, which didn’t deserve to even be in the tournament, is in the round of 32.

Worst call I have ever, EVER seen.

 Shame, shame, shame.

I have to admit, after Mayweather's  violence against women conviction I've hoped someone would knock his teeth out, through the back of his head.
Mayweather's defense has stopped every chance at that.

I was blaming Pacguiao's   lack of KO's in the last few years as a sign of age, then I read  reports claiming  Manny lost the desire to hurt someone, after  converting from Catholic to a less violent Christian.

Now I have faith Manny despises Mayweather enough to put his Faith aside and his desire not to hurt someone.
He'll be  looking to knock Mayweather's  head  off his ass.

"Freddie Roach, the famed boxing trainer who continues to work as he deals with Parkinson’s disease, said Manny Pacquiao is so prepared and so ready to take on Floyd Mayweather a week from today that he has predicted a knockout victory.

Roach was named the seventh Eddie Futch trainer of the year at Friday night’s Boxing Writers Association of America dinner in New York. His brother went to retrieve the award for him. Roach said Pacquiao told him: “You’ll win that next year because I’m going to knock Mayweather out.”

Such talk usually does not come from Pacquiao, who takes a more straightforward approach to fighting.

“I’ve never heard Manny be so bold,” Roach said. “I was really happy he said that to me.”

Pacquiao hasn’t knocked out an opponent since stopping Miguel Cotto by TKO in 2009. Disposing of Mayweather, a brilliant defensive boxer, would be an achievement no one has accomplished. Mayweather hardly gets hit. Still, Roach sees a sharp boxer in his corner.

“I like where my fighter is right now. He’s in the perfect condition to fight this guy,” Roach said. “He’s faster than ever, punching harder than ever. So explosive right now.

“Ever since this fight was announced, he’s at a different level. He’s trained very hard. I’ve never seen him better.”

On Mayweather’s side, he and his father/trainer Floyd Sr. continually say they are approaching the fight as they would any other. For Roach, that’s a sign.

“I feel like they don’t want to be here. I feel they were forced into this fight by Showtime,” Roach said. “I really don’t think he wants this fight. He was forced into it by the public, the press and by Showtime.”

Roach helped coordinate the meeting between CBS President and Chief Executive Leslie Moonves and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum that helped push the bout toward reality.

“All of our wishes came true,” Roach said.

The knockout wish of Mayweather just may be a dream, though""
