Keep in mind that McGwire did nothing illegal, only questionable.

I always knew in the back of mind, that LaRussa marched to a different drum, but this one indeed takes the cake.

My only guess as to why Selig is so supportive of this decision, would be to get McGwire out from under the protection of the players' union.  Once he becomes part of management, his immunities would be severly eliminated. Right?

Ultimately, Mark will most likely stick with his "I don't want to talk about the past" stance.

I don't question the hiring because of the steroid issue, but the technical issue. He was a .263 career hitter and struck out a ton. However, LaRussa said McGwire has helped other players with their hitting, Matt Holliday for one, so maybe he can help others. Only time will tell if this was a good hire or not.

to have the qualifications to be a hitting instructor like a guy like Mattingly, just to name one.  But hey, what do we really know about what is needed to be a hitting instructor?

I believe obtaining steroids without a prescription is illegal. It just wasn't prohibited under MLB rules at the time.

Why does everyone gloss over this fact?
