Jetter will occupy a place in the lineup just like Farve at Minn. A younger player who has as much talent and bigger future will remain in the AA or AAA ball or on a taxi squad.
Maybe he was a great Yankee , now he is an aging ballplayer with a big ego. Common sense says it's time to walk away.
But if the Yankee's think they can hit the ball, field and drag Jetter and beat Boston I'm all for it. It will be interesting.
On the other hand no one turns on the Yankee stars like the New York fan if the Star isn't delivering. Look how many times and how often they get on A-Rod when he's in slump.
Derek Jeter is the next coming of Carl Pavano. He will average 200-300 plate appearances per season while his aching bones are relaxing on the DL while still collecting his paycheck and the 3 million buyout he'll get in year 4 for riding on the bench during the 2012-13 seasons. So 51 million over 4 years averages 12.75 million a year for a future DL player like Derek Jeter.

I am not going to argue with you about his skills, just the salary he can command. You can argue all you want about whether or not he is "worth" the money, but not about the size of the contract he signed.
