It was reported on Imus this AM that Yankee fans during the last Ranger game in NY had spat upon and thrown beer on the wife of Cliff Lee.  These Neandrathal maggots and their atrocious behavior give those few good Yankee supporters-many of whom post here, BTW, a bad name-and are why the Yankees are little beloved outside of their faithful-Pretty dispicable-Shame, Shame-1rob...

If you attend enough sporting events, you will encounter a handful of fans who are obnoxious to other fans, curse at the ahletes, start fights, and yes, spit/throw beer on opposing player's families/friends. Its ridiculous and pathetic behavior that is not warranted and should NOT be tolerated at any stadium. I always find it ridiculous that some fans feel a sense of entitlement just because they purchased a ticket to a game. Somehow, they should be "more involved" in the action around them then merely being a spectator. Whether that means being obnoxious to opposing fans or taunting and shouting obscenties at players it really makes the experiences not enjoyable for the 99 % of the fans who just want to watch and root for their team. I am a Steeler die hard and I can't tell you the number of times I have watched Steeler fans be verbally abusive to opposing fans, or walk into the stadium so drunk that they are vomiting on their way up to the seats. I would think this is typical in any NFL stadium on any Sunday...a handful of village idiots coupled with 65,000 plus good fans who root hard but respectfully for their team.

I will disagree with one of your points. I do not think its the boorish behavior of a few bad Yankee fans that causes most of the country to despise the Yankees. I think its purely economics. Most fans of opposing teams hate the Yankees because of their payroll and the perception that the Yankees can simply buy the right to compete for Championships year after year (and making the playoffs every year but once since 1995 will support that notion)

But do NOT hate the team, hate the system. Until Baseball decides that it has had enough the obvious disparity in team's payroll (and implement a salary cap) the Yankees will do what they always do..spend money.

it was during the Torre-Steinbrenner years. They don't have the daily drama that seemed to identify those teams. After Hal and Hank took over, there was an initial flurry of noise, but it died down afterwards. I hope they keep Girardi because I think he has been a calming influence on the organization while he's been there.

It was reported on several news outlets.

These people are not YANKEE fans, they are scumbags and should be identified, arrested, prosecuted, and sent to prison. And never be allowed into any sporting event in the entire country.

That kind of shit should never be tolerated.

Thank you

certainly that is a major factor in many folks' dislike of the Yankees-and thanks, Coach, for your usual on point input-Actually, I have a few friends who are Yankee fans-smile-and there are bad fans everywhere that spoil it for all-but the bad Yankee supporters I HAVE met were such arrogant, loud, over the top, obnoxious pricks that my view is forever colored-and these recent teams have a pretty good bunch of guys-Jeter, who lives here in Tampa, is a prince-but I've hated the team since the early 1950's, when they beat my beloved Dodgers regularly in the World Series and I ain't gonna change! grin-Have a good week-1rob

As a yankee fan i understand the bitterness towards the yankees.  But this is regarding the teams enormous payroll and success (one may lead to the other but does not for all teams).

But truth be told i beleive these yankee fans are far from representative of the whole.  Generally speaking it is my experience that i would much rather be a visiting fan going to any sport in NY than going to a game in for example Philadelphia.  They truly are the worst fans in all of sports.  I am not just referring to the fact that they could actually boo Mike Schmidt.

I am referring how they treat out of town guests/hostages/victims.

Truth be told i have never heard yankee fans chant deragatory (even when Red Sox in town) cheers (for example Twins Suck).  NY fans usually cheer for there teams (perhaps we have something to cheer about) while other fans like Minnesota or Texas chant NY sucks.

I dont know who i feel more sorry for Minnesota fans chanting how NY sucks while getting beaten to death by NY, or Texas fans chanting NY sucks as more important than enjoying your teams accomplishments.

The rangers played great baseball in beating the yankees, they proved to be the better team and I will root for them.  Hopefully there fans will think about taking pleasure in there own accomplishments instead of the demise of others.

Two years ago (??) when the All-Star Game was at Yankee Stadium the fans chanted "Over-rated" the entire time the Red Sox picther was on the mound -- what support for the American League. Also there was a parade where fans shouted obscenities at Red Sox players -- and their families.

During the 1995 (??) World Series, Yankees v. Braves, TV had to use "canned sound" to cover up the fans mock of the Braves fan's Indian Chant. The Yankees fans chanted "fuck you" -- not just a few unruly fans, but thousands of fans.  One of the Braves pitchers made a comment about the harsh atmosphere of Yankee Stadium and got into some hot water for not being PC. He made a remark that Yankee stadium is the only park in the US where a 10 year old gives you the finger.

I actually do not hate the Yankees and respect their team. I am baseball fan.  It was very telling when Yankee Stadium turned into a tomb and the fans fled like rats when Texas put the whoop on them. It was actually embarassing to see how empty the stadium was after Texas took a commanding lead.  Are these folks baseball fans? Are they loyal to their team only when they win?  Phillies fans stick around and boo the opposing team -- now that's class.

I had the ocassion to meet up with a couple of Yankee fans who came to Baltimore this past season. I met them at the game. Very knowlegable fans. We enjoyed the game, gave one another a hard time, and went out on the town afterward.

Some people do give the larger group a bad name. Nevertheless, the stories are true.

I can't figure it out either. I'm a fan, but think most people are fans of their hometown team or in my case where I grew up and lived. Thus the Cheifs and Dodgers. I whished many times I was born in Green Bay when I was a kid.

I might hate it when they get beat and I usually lose a little money but I do admire begrudling when they are beat by a better team, which in my case is often. Maybe that's the difference I get a lot of practice and New Yourkers don't.
