Elway made Shanahan.

Besides the McNabb fiasco on Sunday, Shanahan's handling of Haynesworth has backfired badly and put him on the defensive all season.

I am no fan of Haynesworth mind you.

There isn't much that separates good coaches and managers from great ones. Mike Shanahan decision to pull McNabb was done, I think,  out of frustration at a critical time. You don't make a change like that unless you know the change has a high percent of success or you are forced by circumstances.  In the NFL head Coaches get paid for have a cool head. Everyone else can get frustrated, players can make lousy decisions but not the coach.

The Chiefs Todd Haley must have been damn pissed off in the final 5 min of the Bills game but he stayed cool under fire and walked away with a win. Bill Belichick is another one, yea his calls on 4th down and short yardage, I don't know, but he is always there to win and is always cool, at least his decisions are cold and calculating.

Childress bet the season on a 40 year old OB without a preped QB to step in on the chance of injury. And he had to know there was a pretty high chance of QB injury. There is always a high chance of injury at that position and the odds had to be higher of Farve. The same could be said for the Cowboys and Romo. He's not 40 but the percentage of injury at that position is too damn high not to have a decent replacement. In all honesty few coaches prepare the second string QB very well.

I think Belichick is probably the best of the class, Shanahan, Childress, not so much.
When he pulled McNabb he said he didn't have any faith in him and would rather go with someone with less experience. Now what did Shanahan get for his brilliant move and what was the message he sent to the rest of the team.

I wonder who got what here.
