I would like to see the Suns play Atlanta in the finals, but I know the present Hawks' team will never make it past the semis. Actually, the NBA would love to see a final of the Lakers and Knicks, the two biggest TV markets.

or the Boston Celtic's...big time! I think bigger than the Knicks

I of course am a Suns fan from day 1, I would love nothing more than them to finally get a title after 30+ years...I also would love them to play Atlanta. I'm not nor ever have been a fan of the Lakers (only to be expected as they have been Phx's rival for years) in the end even if we don't go all the way I just want them to kick the Spur's asses back to the Alamo QUICKLY!

That's my take Go Suns Go! Please finally do!

Dear Terri AZ:
Please describe you reaction 33 years ago when the Suns and the Celtics had the double overtime game in the finals. Considering that it was one of the greatest games every played describe how you where feeling when Scott hit the jumpshot to send the game into overtime. I know that your references might be a bit hazy but give us your best recollection of that game.

First of all it was a triple overtime game, not double overtime, and yes it probably was one of, if not, the best games ever played.

Its funny how you remember certain things, I remember exactly where I was, The "old" Winners Circle in Salisbury MA and just the how crazy it was.

Havlicek actually caused the first overtime by missing a rare free throw at the end of regulation.

Then at the end of the fist overtime it was tied and he had a shot that would have ended it then, but it rolled off the rim.

The last 20 seconds of the 2nd overtime were the most outrageous 20 seconds I've ever seen on a basketball court.  The C's were leading by three and in a flash the Suns score twice and take the lead.  Then with four seconds on the clock. Havlicek takes the inbound pass goes the length of the court and hits leaning one hander in with people all over him.

The horn sounded and  CELTIC WIN 111-110!

Pandaemonium breaks out, the crowd rushes the floor the team gets to the locker room.

But the clock never started until Havlicek stopped faked and then shot!

The scorekeeper was asleep or some friggin thing. The clock somehow had 1 seconds still on it.  Instead of using common sense and realizing it took more than 4 second to do what Havlicek just did.  (Something CBS replays made painfully obvious later) the refs called the teams back on the floor to give the Suns another shot.

Then Paul Westfall, next to Larry Bird probably one of the smartest people to play the game does something ingenious.  During the attempt to inbounds the ball he calls for a timeout but the suns don't have any time outs.  Technical Foul. The celtics hit the technical foul and are now up by 2.
But what Westfall had done by getting the technical was the ball would be inbounded at half court not the backcourt.

Now remember, the crowd has already rushed the floor once and they are lined up around the floor pushing themselves into the Phoenix huddle during the time out. This was the old Garden that could be louder than any place I've ever been and at times the building actually felt like it was rocking.

Then the Suns got the ball in bounds to  Garfield "fucking" Heard  and he hit a shot from the top of the key to tie the game again.  (BTW) Today  that shot may very well have been a 3 pointer.

I think I missed the first 3 minutes of the 3rd overtime taking a piss I had needed to take since regulation.   The Celtics were up by 6 late in the triple overtime and again, Phoenix score twice very quickly but finally the time ran out.

For me it was another win in a long line of Celtic wins.  For Terri it must have felt like dagger.  If not that night then certainly  Sunday when the Celtics won in Phoenix for their 13th Championship.

Eight players in that series went on to coach in the NBA.  There was a reserve player on the Phoenix bench that series that got no playing time but his hair looked great.  Yes Pat Riley was on the Suns then.
