Dear Readers,

As a follow up to Mr. G's solid post on the name game, remember that TER has a great feature that allows us to remember her old names. You can use the "problem report" feature.  As an example: say "Sally" changes her name to "Lucy" then to "Matilda".  You can simply write a problem report on her profile that says: This provider should be listed as Sally/Matilda/Lucy.  That way, her review history remains intact. (You get membership time for updating the database)  Allowing a provider's review history (especially a poor one) to become obscured defeats the purpose of having review boards.

As Mr. G rightly pointed out, name changes are rarely done for good reason, they are usually done to try to run from a poor review history, or to try to drum up new business from unsuspecting clients, falsely advertising as a "new" local provider.  TER helps us avoid these games, and know who exactly who we're buying.  I have yet to hear an honest reason why a providers nick would need to be changed without disclosure.

The problem report feature is also valuable for reporting new phone numbers or websites as well, or for misfiled reviews. (e.g. A provider is listed as "new" because her name is mispelled, and hasn't been added to her existing profile.)

The client had obtained personal info on her and her family and was blackmailling and stalking her.  It was legit, I checked it out myself.

Mistress Porsche was not my first choice of a "Work" name I wanted my old lifestyle domme name of "jaded" but was told it would not go over well by the agency I worked for a couple days when I first got started.  When I went independent I almost changed it but decided to not confuse people or start out with a questionable personna.

...the online nickname change is a moot point.  This would be the least of her worries.  The stalker already has far more sensitive information that can't be easily changed.  IMHO, if a stalker has her real info, and her families, she should be contacting an attorney and the police about a restraining order, not worrying about changing her nickname on the review boards.  She isn't going to shake anyone that way.  Many high-profile, reputable local providers have had run-ins with stalkers at one time or another, none of them changed their nicks because of it.

Yes, it was true and I assisted her (in my other profession I have the capability to file legal documents) in restraining orders, etc.  Anyway, she moved etc.. but didn't want him to contact her using her old work name.  She allowed him to get too close and learned her lesson:-)

I agree 95% of the name changes are done fdor other than respectable reasons...however I knwo in one case a lady had not been around that log got busted quit the biz for over 6 months and came back as someone else...but she did NOT have a bad rep with the old name as for stalkers well the price of being famous-LOL!

She didn't have any negative reviews that She knew of and buisness wasn't too bad for her either. just a privacy issue he and whoever he was trying to include in the situation are searching for info on one name, her old name and have no clue any further than that but to her that was TOO close she had ALOT to lose from being outed in the manner in which he was trying to out her so you are right on one account it wasn't a traditional type of stalker thing it was a far more relentless type of thing.
So please be aware that there is an exception to every rule! And she happened to be one of them. Cross my Heart;^}

...and he has never met her, and she has no website or review history, a name change might make sense.  (I would wonder how he even found her in the first place.)

But if he has met her in person, or even if she only has a few reviews or posts under the "old" nickname, she should be very careful with new reviews and posts. If a new review came out under her "new" nickname, including a good description of her, the stalker could fire off a few emails to the hobbyists involved, ask a few questions, and probably make the match.

Again, if the situation is dangerous or threatening to escalate, I would seek a legal remedy, and not rely on nickname changes to throw someone off your track.
