Going to be spending a few days in San Francisco, a city I've visited many times.  This time my wife will be doing some business convention type stuff and I'll have the day-time hours to fill by myself.

Please don't send me to the Pier or the Bridge, or... if you live there, you get it what I mean

won the lotto in a manner of speaking.  Why would you not want to spend each day with a different provider?  If you like museums and historical landmarks, they even have some older providers.

- Visit the street that is really the crookedest one in SF https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont_Street_(San_Francisco)
- Check out a Frank Lloyd Wright design https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V._C._Morris_Gift_Shop
- Go to the California Academy of Sciences or the Exploratorium
- Look at (or buy) rare libations at Cask
- Since it's sunny, visit a beer garden (there are several now)
- Walk some stairs (my favorite: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-16th-avenue-tiled-steps-san-francisco )
- Visit the highest point in San Francisco (http://sfrecpark.org/destination/mt-davidson-park/ )
- Rent a boat at Stow Lake
- Visit City Lights Bookstore
...
The list goes on. PM me if you're looking for something specific in a particular neighborhood.

I love hiking The Presidio. There are short walks, and long ones. The views are magnificent, and the crowds are mostly minimal, except in certain areas. The walks take you through some cool neighborhoods, down to the beach, through a military cemetery, through some old military WWll installations, through forests, and marshes, up and down ocean view cliffs, above an old air field with hangars still intact, albeit changed, under the dreaded bridge, and down to Fort Point. The bridge and the fort are where the crowds are, but you can zip through in no time.

I'm pretty sure you can download a map online, or go to the visitors center for one. The trails are very well marked. If you know your way around, parking is free. Otherwise you'll be paying SF rates. The parking at The Presidio golf course is free, but timed.

I'll be there soon and have seen the bridge and pier myself so was wondering what other things were worth doing. I like the idea of the crookedest street!

I always tell people to check out Haight Ashbury.  Some people may think it's touristy but I don't think so.  It is ...interesting.  Check out Amoeba Records if you do go.

One thing I recently did is a tour of AT&T park. They give tours twice a day.  If you're a baseball fan, worth a look, maybe not so much if you're a Dodger's fan.  But you can check out the visiting locker room where they are replacing the carpets after the Dodgers celebrated winning the division last year.

not sure if you are still checking this thread but what do you like to do in your free time

Ah, Amoeba Records!  That is certainly a highlight of the city. It can be lovely to catch an impromptu free show there, too.

There is a lot of really cool history in the Haight.  I suppose I don't always put it on my list since it can be so busy/popular (not specifically touristy).  I miss the Red Vic Movie House.

Great Suggestions!

City Lights Bookstore jumped off the page - Been there and, of course, Vesuvio next door!
Also hit the Exploratorium and I think the high point you're referring to (does it have that weird antenna on top?).

Never knew that Lombard wasn't the crookedest St - learned something there.

Very Intrigued by the "Cask" and will have to look into that.  I like exploring the speak easies and historical bars.

That sounds pretty cool.  Don't get me wrong, the GGbridge is marvelous, but I've been there/done that more times than I'd like.  I loved the fort and the old bunkers around the GGB park.

Haight Ashbury is an area I know well.  Been to Ameoba Record, Had a slice of New York Pizza, visited that "Love to Death" store, love the Crepes place too and have had tapas at Cha-Cha-Cha...

I just love exploring a city's historical and interesting places like City Lights, Amoeba and Vesuvio.  I've also enjoyed some of the famous hotel bars like Top of the Mark and Maxfield's in the Palace Hotel.

Recently (and have some reservations on this trip) I've been hitting some of the Speak Easy joints around town.

Sutro Tower is nearer to Twin Peaks (not sure which hill by name)... there is a giant cross on Mount Davidson.

If bars tickle your fancy, for historical reasons you should visit Old Ship Saloon.  For sheer style, Smuggler's Cove.  And for the legacy of speakeasy, Bourbon & Branch.

SF has a few food tours if you're a foodie.  A lot of food history.

Also the Kink.com armory tour is interesting as it's a big place and you go though all of the porn sets.  I heard that you might see naked actresses/actors walking around but it didn't happen during my tour.

Also Japantown is interesting, although somewhat small.

I'm actually going there in about a month and looking for new stuff myself.
