Was at the "farmers market" here in my town thinking I was buying locally.  Turns out 90% of the vendors were from other places.  Pissed me off.  Not that we have a lot of farmers but I thought why don't we?  Better yet why don't I support my local farmer instead of the Chiliean strawberry growers?

There's nothing like a bit of friendly competition to lift the home team's game.  I've noticed that recently with some new localposts and pics from our wonderful local ladies both here as well as on other sites.  I think a number of our local providers are fantastic, and I don't find too many temptations from out of towners in my budget.  I'm hesitant to see some visitors because they are unknown quantities.  Can I really trust their reviews?  And what if I do like them?  I have to wait for months for a repeat.

...well, I am interested to see...  My guess is no discount, but some cheers and goodwill from the locals.

OK I'm just being a smart ass.  Just trying to think of a good provider example.

What really started this was a visiting provider offering a discount to her home boys who were also visiting san diego. Of course, why shouldn't she? Our girls do it...

I have to agree with ossie - I have found most of the visiting ladies to have prices that are way outside my budget even though they are still discounted. That's not to say that the local ladies are any better in their rates. I have found that the adage "you get what you pay for" is NOT true in this hobby.

I agree.  You can have a great time for reasonable $, and even get ripped off for $$$$.  
Attitude, personality, looks, performance, and fun can be had for a fair rate.  TER helps
sort out the locals, but the traveling ladies provide less than satisfactory packages for
way too much money.

The thing that totally amazes me is how some of our local ladies will double their already sky high rates.  I guess part of me wants to say "Hey if you can get it then go for it", but the other side of me wants to say ... "Are you serious?  You were $600/hour (which I think is too high!) and now you want $1,000/hour??"  Good luck ladies.  To me that's called price gouging (sp) and sets a pretty bad taste in the mouth of a local hobbyist (of 25+ years)

Like I saidGoldy good for you! Nif you can't get 1k per hr then go for it. Since you mention another provider raising her rate as well then that limits my choices. As another poster pointed out the higher rate doesn't necessarily mean higher quality. I hope other hobbyist will act accordingly. Best of luck to you hunny.

Its all about making a choice - both as a provider and as a hobbyist.  This is a microcosm of the free market economy.  The price point is generally arrived at according to what the market can bare (no pun intended).  If you cruise other ad boards, you'll see that in some regions prices are lower, and that's for a very good reason - more competition and hence more choices.  Personally, if I had a budget that allowed me to spend 1K or more on a provider, I'd go for it.  There are a few pornstars that offer their services for 1-2K and their reviews are incredible.  Now when I look at what I spend on the hobby over the course of the year, I might well be able to spend some time with a 1K girl, but I wouldn't be doing much for quite a few months before or after.  So I make a choice to stick within my price range and have more regular fun.  I can see that at times providers are forced to see more clients than they feel comfortable with because of extenuating circumstances.  I know of one case where an unexpected hospitalization (nothing to do with her professional life) forced a provider friend to basically screw her way back to financial stability.  They were tough but I guess necessary choices she had to make.  TER is a fairly reliable guidebook once you learn to read it carefully.  There are other local websites where the price point is significantly lower.  I've had good luck there too.

The problem is 90% of the locals who read let alone comment are travelers themselves so they could give a rats as about the local boys.  

I am always hoping for more on my tight budget.  Once the rates go over 300 roses, I zoom on past those ladies.  I have also found some better value for my bucks by driving up to O.C..

Rocky - and others - Though this seems like a no-brainer the talent is MUCH more plentiful and competitive in OC and LA.  For those of you guys in North County, you should consider this.  YES there are your $800/hr ladies there too but PLENTY more variety in OC for the $200 - 300 range and YES they are also well reviewed and respected.  As someone else pointed out - we all have choices and I also will not stray north of $300.  For those guys who can pay the high fees and those ladies who get it - god bless you - it's just not worth that much to me.

OC and LA definitely have more to offer than SD, both in terms of numbers of providers and also lower rates.  I'm not sure why.  The OC board on TER is fairly quiet. You need to look beyond TER to find out the full picture.
