IMHO I've taken to booking close to home/work given this seems to happen more often than we'd like to admit. Taveling for the hobby leads to blue balls more often than not.
Confirm VIA email. Check. Call per instructions. No answer or vm. Need to start driving 60 miles. Check. Dispassionate. Check. Pull over to get other phone number and let provider know I'm on the way. Check. Get to location and see an email saying1/2 hour late and bad time available. WTF? 60 mile drive home with blue balls. Check.
