I have been fortunate enough to have a very good friend and client who helps run the Con each year. Including this year he has gotten me passes the past 3 years. I'm going to be costume shopping this week. Look out for a sexy BatGirl or Cat Woman.

The price needs to be rite.

Unless you have connections, you've got to plan much farther ahead if you want to go to the con.  It sold out in 90 minutes earlier over the winter.

If a lot of us are going to be down there anyway, would anyone be into having an informal meetup/mingle one night?

Including 5 years straight. There's always something special about coming to SDCC. While I've been to many simialr shows all over the country and Canada, nothing quite compares to it. I think the city itself plays a big part of it; San Diego is easily one of the nicest cities I've ever visited. However, I can't see myself attending again any time soon: between the difficulty of just getting there (I live on the East Coast, and getting a direst, non-stop flight to San Diego from my local airports is impossible, leaving me with the only option of apending a whole day traveling each way), the difficulty in getting tickets (as noted earlier, it sold out in 90 minutes) and the difficulty in getting a hotel (which even with the convention discount is going to be expensive), not to mention it's SO crowded you can hardly move, and there's a very good chance you won't be able to attend some of the functions you want because 10,000 other people also want to go to the same thing, I've decided to stick with other, somewhat smaller shows. Too bad, because I really like the town and people, but it is what it is.
