I was shocked that the percentage was nearly 50% for those who have recived bareback FS. I know this is a composite of nationwide members, but I have never read a review, nor been in a situation myself where bareback FS has ben option/offered.  if this really is the case, ths community has some real health concerns to adress. Check the LA board for this topic.  You've got to remember a lot of folks in this hobby have been at it for over 20 years.  Prior to 20 years ago, condoms were hardly ever used except as a contraceptive.  And the survey did say "ever".

Many many years ago it was not that unusual. I had one recently, which was an unusual circumstance.

I answered honestly, but it was accidental.  I figured that counted.  Since then I have become much more careful and take steps that I hope will result in no further breakage of condoms.  I never thought of myself as a "big" man, but after a provider turned me on to the magnum condoms I enjoy it much more and haven't had one break.

For those who continue to use "we used to do it bareback 20 years ago...", you are missing the point. A previous TER survey states that only 30% of us are age 40 or over, which means 70% of us are under age 40. I seriously doubt the "under age 40" group was involved in this hobby 20 years ago. 43% of all surveyed answered yes to bareback, that means 43% times 70% = 30% of all hobbyists are under age 40 and have had bareback with providers. 30% is still pretty significant, a percentage that the argument of "many of us 20 years ago used to do it bareback" doesn't hold!!

Again, I am not making a moral judgement either way. Whether people do it bareback is none of my business, but it bothers me when people keep using the same excuse how it was done bareback many years ago. Even though many used to do it bareback back when, that only accounts for a small number of hobbyists on TER.

I think the percentage is somewhat misleading as for many that responded it may have been many years ago or just happened once.  Yes it is an alarming figure but it is not like 50% of the people seeing providers are consistently doing in bareback. A more relevant survey would be who had bareback intercourse with a provider in the last 6 or 12 months or how many times have you had unprotected intercourse in the last 6 or 12 months.

For me it was several years back. It was a one time thing with a provider I knew quite well and she knew me quite well. I had assumed that see had slipped the condom on during the bj before climbing on top of me. I did not see anyone for several months afterwards and was tested several times, always negative, before seeing anyone else.

Another factor will skew the results, one way or the other, making the findings suspect. This was a self selected survey, i.e., only those who volunteered were included. This group may or may not be representative of the TER population. If I had to guess, the number of bb participants were over represented because those are the folks who might be eager to report the now daring activity. Seems to me it ain't no big whoop to say  "Nope, didn't do, don't do, etc."
