to explain this further, I'm afraid this is all the information I have: Grace and I spoke by phone the night of the Manhattan Transfer concert at Humphreys.  I remember the day precisely because I had a date with my Mother-In-Law (like I said, don’t ask….) and we attended the show.  Ten or fifteen minutes before showtime, a man stole Grace’s car, with her apartment keys in ignition, and left her at the corner of Nimitz and Rosecrans.  She was badly frightened but I guess more or less physically OK.

I agreed to give her a ride home and asked her to wait inside the Navy Exchange fenceline and make eye contact with the cashiers.  Armed Navy police have a line of sight from ASW to there and I knew she would be safe as long as someone could see her.  About a minute later, I was just starting my car when she called back and said she’d hailed a cab and was going home.

She was really shaken but thinking clearly enough to realize she needed to give me a wave off which I really appreciated.  I asked her to make "good decisions" about going home given that her keys weren't secure.  I left a voice mail, and sent an e-mail, asking her to let me know she was OK.  No response.
