someone left a flower on my door recently, don't know who, except that it came from a plant nearby.  could have been a tidy neighbor, a drunken visitor, a friend or relative, ghosts, spacemen, or maybe someone from here.  Don't know, but wow, it really really made my day, and I needed it.  "someone out there loves me!?" I pondered.

Or my favorite is during the holidays instead of exchanging gifts, each day for the month of December, my family will pick names and do something nice for that person daily and most importantly, secretly. Then on the holiday you reveal who it is.

After all it is the little things that make us smile the most, when we are least expecting it as you pointed out.
