But she's working from a hotel?

I thought everyone was using cells.

I know one older provider in SoCal who lists both her land line and her cell number.

We older folks grew up without cell phones (heck, our first home phone was a party line), so some, especially older gals may still have their home phone listed.  That might be a little riskier than just a cell number, but there is always some risk in this hypocritical religiously-run country.

In this case, the same land line is being used by two, possibly three different gals on CL.

Gosh I must really be old...  I lived on Catalina Island for a year when I was a kid - they actually had one of the switchboards with the cords that pulled out and connected to the extensions.

There were only so many outgoing lines to the mainland and if they were busy the operator would call you back when one was free.

And calling in town you would just tell the operator who you wanted or the extension and they would connect you.

Giggle,

Do you know it is a hotel because an operator answers the phone?  (Sharing a hotel room is a lot more problematic than sharing an apartment.)

Here is one reason they might use the land line:  If a provider is smart, she will turn off her cell phone while she is in a session; none of us want our time to be interrupted by a ringing phone.

If the gal you want is in session, then the gal who answers the phone can tell you she is available if you want to try her; or she can tell you when the one you want will be available.  With individual cellphones you would not get that information.

However, the above explanation makes most sense if they are in an apartment/house with 2 or more bedrooms.  If it really is a hotel, it's a little harder to figure out what is going on.

When I check a number and see that its a land line I figure its an agency and move on....  Especially with CL posts... IMHO
