I get that if seller A wants to charge X amount for their services and buyer A agrees to pay said amount then that is their business. It is up to me to decide if I agree to do the same!

You ever come across a profile on TER where a provider has zero reviews, or perhaps one review and charges a rate that up the wazoo?  What's up with that?  Yes, you are hot, at least from what I can tell from your blurred out uber-Photoshopped pictures, but that's just one metric to judge a provider.  How can a provider put up rates like $500+ when she doesn't have a single performance point on her profile?

I just don't get it.

...one horny sucker who ends up paying her share of the rent for the month.  Or the other scenario is you have one incredibly lucky guy who becomes the first to experience a truly exceptional beginner.  My bet though is that it doesn't usually end like the Cinderella story.  I've seen a few of these ads myself, both here and on other boards.  Usually they don't last long, or they start to offer "specials" that then become more permanent.   I wrote a review on one such provider - a visiting Asian who was offering 600/hr up in OC.  She didn't have a hope, and suddenly she dropped to 300.  Even that was over priced.  You live and learn.

Are these new providers more self-delusional or are they just shooting the dark hoping for a sucker fish who will bite?
And I get it, you are hot, have a great website, cool photoshoot pictures, but honestly who gives a fuck if you don't have any performance numbers to back you up?
Thanks for the comment Ossieboy!

I've made my share of mistakes, but I also think I've learnt a thing or two on the way.  You know the old saying about a fool and his money.  Never was it more aptly applied than in this hobby.  In some cases I think the providers are self-delusional, but I also think they have a very sharp learning curve, and those who learn do stick around and make a living out of this - albeit with adjusted rates.  Others I think are "managed" and the manager - vigilant boyfriend or pimp - is greedy and unrealistic.  Like you say, look at the numbers, and then read a few reviews, and then look at who else has been reviewed by the reviewer, and so on.  I don't just have my favorite providers, I also have my favorite reviewers - guys who write some great stuff both in reviews and in comments on the board.  They've been my guides.  It takes a little time, and of course there are bogus reviews here and there, but overall I've found the review system to work for me, and pms are also a great source of information.

The guys say it is a buyers market, but I believe it is a seller's market, so the provider decides her own value it is not for you to get.

supply, demand and price points. with ads and reviews thrown in to influence the buy or sell transactions. it can almost be viewed as if the sex part is just an adjunct.  I feel the reviews on TER nowhere near tell the whole story. so you have a provider with no/few reviews charging way higher than the 'market' for services provided. you really have no idea how many dates she has because many of her buyers are probably not tuned in to TER or otherwise do not write reviews.  on the other hand, you have providers at or under the market who do a fabulous business but are also unwritten about for the same reasons.  what i mean, i guess, is that TER does not define the whole universe of this business.  but I'm glad to be here.

I agree with you!  We get a limited view of the provider market in the U.S. in particular and the rest of the world in general.  Imagine a website though like Google News that aggregated all the reviews written about providers and normalized the all the scores from all the reviews in a meaningful way and presented it to us hobbyists.  That would provide a somewhat more complete picture of the ratings/looks.
And then integrate a Digg like system that floats "good" reviews to the top based on hobbyists votes and we'd have a more egalitarian system of reviews.  I'm surprised that no one has done this yet.

One of the problems with reviews is that they can be influenced by forces that compromise their objectivity.  If I really like a provider and want her to see me again, then sure I might well be tempted to bump up her numbers in the looks department, say from a 7 to an 8 in order to flatter her and also help keep her average score high.  Its a way of saying thanks.  But clearly I've compromised the integrity of the system, because she is really a 7.  On the other hand, what if she's an athletic Asian with enhanced titties - one of my favorite "types"?  I give her a 9 for looks.  Someone else, who isn't into Asians, and who hates falsies, might say she's really only a 7.  And so it goes.  Both opinions are genuine, but they certainly don't agree.  The hope is that over time, these influences will balance out, and a general trend will emerge.    When a provider has a short TER history, wide swings are possible given these variables.  A longer history - should it evolve - usually indicates both professionalism and reliability.  On another slightly different topic, long histories dating back years always give me cause to pause and think.  Do I really want to go where many, many others have gone before?
