Most, if not almost all of you, probably refrain from the company of the common streetwalker. So, the results of my query  may prove futile. But I will ask none the less...

Once upon a time I knew an older woman, Lupe, in the Oceanside area of North County. How we met or what our relationship was isn't really important. But she left an indelible mark on my life. She and her younger daughter Nicole lived with me for a period of time until Nicole was horrifically murdered outside a nightclub in San Diego. The murderer was, to my knowledge, never apprehended. Nicole knew nothing of her mother's addictions or her means for providing for the both of them. With no vices that I'm aware of, she was going to school and substitute teaching for children with disabilities. When Lupe received the call after the shooting, she was inconsolable...blaming her own life and actions for the taking of her child as a form of punishment.

We lost track sometime afterwards. She moved in with her older daughter, son-in-law and her grandkids. Her daughter considered me as an outsider, so I saw Lupe less and less often. When I got married and relocated elsewhere in North County I eventually lost contact.  

Hardly a day passes that I don't think of them. Lupe was around twenty years my senior which would put her around 85. Given her addictions and lifestyle, I would be greatly surprised if she's still with us. But I'd like to think that things changed around for her, although unlikely that may have happened. But if anyone knows...
