It's hard to not have Hodad's and Slater's 50/50 on your list.

There is one in Carmel Mountain Ranch and also in San Marcos. I'm sure there are more, too. You can customize your burger just the way you want. Prices are reasonable and they also have great shakes and fries.

BUT, if you really want a great burger, go to The Lumbermill in Idyllwild, CA. Two hours or less drive depending on where you are. The scenery is beautiful and the village is wonderful to visit.

I find Slaters 50/50 to be quite disgusting actually... Nothing nastier to me than a burger that is LEAKING JUICES! BARF!!! Bottom bun all soggy with "juices" ... No thanks. Oh and I hate they make you "name" your burger so when the force me to (yes, they demanded I name it) it became the "I'm a racist cow molester" burger that the employee had to then say when serving it to me. Haha, so point to Goldie.

Hodads... Hm. I have been there (the OB original) and it was not memorable. That doesn't mean it was bad, but it was nothing memorable to me. Maybe I'll check it out again and see if it leaves more of an impression. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe I'll hit up the downtown location for my next downtown duo with a certain buxom babe and our lover before the 2nd artsy part of our date... Heehee

I agree with you about Hodads. I was underwhelmed. I like Rockys and Johnny B's in La Mesa. Also Crazee Burger

They're really really good. I've got to agree with GK about Hodad's, I was underwhelmed. And back in the day, the bacon swiss at Coco's was outstanding, but I believe they lost their mojo years ago. Anybody have any feelings on Hamburger Mary's? I've been by it a few times but never when I was hungry.

Dont waste your time going any where else. Paring with one of the 50 beers on tap. Top it off with a bacon maple shake. Not for whimps!

There is one about 10min from Disneyland - think I'll stop there next visit before heading back south!
I know my sexy GF Arden Moon posted a photo on her Instagram of one of their burgers and YUM! Looks great!

Combine beef with chorizo, grill and serve with fire roasted chiles, cotija cheese, a dash of chipotle ketchup, and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro on a manteca smeared bolillo.

I would like to try placing the burger between Goldie's buns and eating a path through to where I could lube up my salchicha and enjoy the humid confines of her ass until I burst a gob of my 1952 vintage crema dulce.  Yum!
