but still lots of great (and typically Belly-Up) national talent.  Junior Brown is an amazing guitarist, Aimee Mann is a fabulous singer/songwriter, Yellowman and Buckwheat Zydeco have played the Up about a million times over the past decade, the Von Bondies are supposed to be hot up and comers, Pato Banton has a large following.  I'm gonna have to pick up some tix!

Last year, the Belly Up signed lots of performers with national recognition and I enjoyed the company of several local ladies at many shows.  Now, Belly Up has new management and I don't recognize a single performer (see link).

Are more "name" bands staying away from San Diego clubs this year?  Have arenas taken over? (i.e., Fleetwood Mac at Coors on the 21st; Sarah McLachlan at Sports Arena on 12 July)...

I recently enjoyed an outstanding show there with Charlie Musselwhite and the Blind Boys of Alabama.  First time at this venue, but I doubt I will be returning, at least not for a show.  Seating wasn't all that great as about half the room was standing, which I guess makes for that location's charm, but I wasn't impressed by it (fortunately we obtained seating).  The drink service wasn't so hot either.  Free parking, huge bathrooms, and nice menu are definite pluses, though.  A smaller venue gets smaller names these days I guess, as there are several larger, more comfortable locations now getting the bigger names, and charging dearly for them.  What the hell is a "facility charge"?  Good grief.
