but I would argue downtown is still the best. no way IMO hotel circle since it's all mostly family stuff. But, as a hobbyist, I love downtown since the airport is right there and afterwards I can go to dinner or a game or whatever. Actually can't believe you got robbed down there. Never had any issue downtown  but I'm a big, hairy, a crook probably thinking mess with someone else, type of guy so maybe that has something to do with it. Frankly, I have never even considered safety an issue in SD compared to big inner cities in the east and midwest. Not even close.

I agree, I think Downtown is better than Hotel Circle.  It's usually safe, so I'd chalk up your incident as a one off.  You might also consider staying in La Jolla.  It's nice there, and a bit more central to all of SD.

I still think The Gaslamp Quarter is a great location when coming to visit with hobbying in mind.  On the other hand, I would rather stay in La Jolla any day.  I can't give specific recommendations via the TER Discussion Board but please feel free to PM or email me for suggestions.  I have quite a few.  I don't think Hotel Circle is a very good idea but I don't know from firsthand experience, only from hearing secondhand encounters.

I hope you have a wonderful time while you are here and nothing happens to put a glitch in your FUN!

Yours truly,
Belle

I agree that either downtown or La Jolla are better than Hotel Circle. You look like a class act and Hotel Circle is not up to your standards. Belle can give you good info.
