Seeing how things use to be more low profile and word of mouth. Do you feel the net has made it a whole new world? A kid in a candy store at times you may say.
Or are you just happy to find someone in a more discrete manner then asking a friend?

It's easier, safer, more satisfying as you know what you are getting with no bad or ugly surprises.This of course is if you do your research with the help of sites like this one.And of course staying away from CL.

'cause it basically "decriminalized" our meetings. Sure, it's still illegal, but the back street, black  market aspects are essentially gone.
 Plus it made it possible to meet the nice ladies, get to know 'em as people a bit first. Ahhh, what nice people many of 'em are, too.

I don't know about other people, but it was a BIG decision to do this. The net, and TER, has made me feel much more comfortable and at ease.
As I've said before, I distrust agencies, and without the net, I doubt I'd even be able to find an independent.

You really didn't have to ask a friend to find escorts before the net.  When I saw my first escort, I let my fingers do the walking through the yellow pages.  Other sources at the time included an adult section for newspaper classifieds.  When I first moved to SD, the Reader had escort classified ads.  

While I was able to find some very nice escorts this way, the net has created an entirely new dimension.  Now you know what you are going to get.  However, there was a bit of a thrill not knowing who would show up at your door and where it would go once that lady got there.

I was in the hobby long before the Internet.  Prior to the Internet much of the independent business was handled via classified advertisements in adult newspapers or for some via yellow page advertisements in the phone book.  I would agree that the Internet has made dramatic changes in the way business is conducted.  Some of the changes have been for the better and some have been for the worse.

Actually I find this is a much less discrete way to find ladies than before the Internet since discretion has pretty much went out of the window with the creation of the Internet.  We are now a community complete where in many cases everybody knows everybody else and in many cases know each other’s business and as in any community gossip fills the air.  In 15+ years prior to the internet I can only ever recall one instance where a lady made negative comments about another lady and I never heard a gentlemen make a negative comment about anyone because I did not know any other males in the hobby.  In the 7 years since I became involved with the Internet I have lost count of negative things I have heard.  On the other end prior to the Internet I never heard anything except generic conversation from providers about other clients.  Now I sometimes hear who has a hard time getting it up, who has a small dick, who has a large dick and who is a cheapskate.  From a discretion standpoint if there is gossip about other guys then I am sure there is some out there about me.

I am not complaining about the situation but I think the assumption that this is a more discrete way to do things is erroneous.

...because I believe you can tell a LOT about someone by their conversations on this board - especially over a long period of time. Are they kind? Are they happy? Do they like their vocation - and their clients? Or do they seem to carry a lot of baggage - unhappy, easily offended, quick to blame others? Etc., etc. I remember an exchange you had with another provider several months ago. SHE totally lost her cool, but YOU stayed calm and collected. At that moment, I vowed that I would NEVER see her, and that I would DEFINITELY see you one day. I haven't met you - yet. But I feel I already have. I am certain - from following your conversations over the past six+ months - that you are a very kind and giving person. Just the kind of person I want to meet and spend time with.

Plus, those sexy pix don't hurt either!

I am in the hobby because of the internet and TER.  I enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat on TER a lady prior to setting up an appointment.  I also inquire, after research on TER, of other hobbiests the quality of a ladies services.  Word of mouth is still king and I really believe that for the most part the hobbiests on TER chat look out for each other.  What I find interesting is that there are only a handful of regular ladies who join in on the chats daily, I am wondering how their business has flourished because of the net.  

I met Jai on TER chat during the Rose Bowl, actually bet her a massage and won.  (I still need to connect with her to collect, I know she is good for it.   )  So, Jai, what has been your experience in business up tick when you have been on TER chat regularly?

I miss the good ole' days myself. However,  If you don't participate in the "commuminty" you still have a certain amount of discretion.With exception of the girls that is.
I will say it's feels odd and uncomfortable to me when someone talks about the board or other ladies they've seen. The usual gossip I wouldn't repeat.It just seems it should more about the date and the time at hand.
Before the "communnity" that never really occured. Luckily like Srgt. Schultz, " I know notting".

Emails allow you to communicate without the problem of telephone calls at the wrong time.  Emails along with TER literally bring the candy store to your door.  The pictures don't hurt  either.

when they are available, for the most part. I do wish they would voice themselves more. I know there are some really bright girls in town, with a lot to contribute. But you rarely hear from them. I guess I'm a geek....lolz

Well, I'll jump in for a rare post only because Jai is one of my most favorite people.  I agree with Stumpy's assessment of things before the 'net.  I was participating then, but even given the negatives I wouldn't want to go back to that hit or miss kind of action. Most of us probably are in this for at least a small amount of variety and the ability to avoid spending large amount of time/money to achieve that is worth the downsides to me.  It's nice to have one or two reliable people you feel really comfortable with and at the same time be able to easily have a new 'adventure' once in a while, especially in other cities. But I hardly post at all and have only written a few reviews, so maybe I'm not the best judge.  I do know that you need to be able to weed out the unreliable/untrue info from the hobbyist side. But from the provider side, it's got to be orders of magnitude more difficult to deal with all of the crap that comes with being a community.

Yes, it is a whole new world and it's a vast improvement over the old way of doing things.

Years ago I would go to one of the local massage parlors and hope that the lady I wanted to see was available. Luckily there were several ladies who provided exactly what I was looking for so more often than not I went away very satisfied with the experience.

So, I guess I would be still a "Hobbyist" (but I wouldn't be able to do things like schedule a vacation complete with meeting lovely ladies who live 3000 miles away several weeks in advance.)
