Since you're just a little bit slow, let's examine this just at bit.
Common sense.
Common implies that a large proportion of people have the same sense. Meaning that what makes sense to one person does or should make sense to a majority of people. If we examine it in the microcosm of just one locality like the state of California, or even this discussion board as an even more limited example, we have already seen that what YOU believe as "common sense" isn't what myself sees as common sense, or apparently a few others. Now if you extend that to other parts of the US, and other parts of the world and their cultures it’s not difficult to discover that what appears to be common sense isn’t really common at all. And to take it a bit further, what was common sense 200 years ago isn’t common sense today.
Common sense told people that the world was “flat”
Common sense told people that we couldn’t go to the moon.
Common sense told people that cannibalism was right, and still is in drastic cases
Common sense said that women and minorities weren’t intelligent enough to vote
Common sense says not to blow your self up
Common sense says not to fly a plane into a building deliberately
Now, given that you’re such a world traveler, you should have been able to see that what you think, see, know and believe isn’t the same as those in other countries, cultures and regions. Or did your world travel just involve collecting postcards and sitting in your hotel room pontificating on how right you are and how wrong everyone else is?
How about trying this tact. Instead of using "I" and "you", why not try focusing on the ISSUES instead of the person, or people or labeling? I know it's an advanced method of thinking and discussing things, but give it a try.
I just couldn't resist this.
1) Why would you feel offended by anyone's philosophy?
2) Who cares what "kind" you like or not?
3) It doesn't matter whose existence you tolerate or not.
4) I am proud to be an American
5) I am proud of my government.
5a) Our government needs a lot of work to become better
5b) It's our responsibilities as citizens to be watchdogs of what our government does and that it looks after the rights of ALL it's citizens.
6) It's MY country also.
7) I'd never give up my life for the constitution, but I would give it up defending my country. I have served in the military.
8)Our constitution was not written as a complete document. That is why we have amendments, and the ability to amend it. It's not nearly as good as the constitution we wrote for Japan after WWII.
9) Whose "KIND" is stripping "our nation's historical heritage and religious rights"?
10) Our government as well as the lawmakers and laws they pass have the ability to be the enemy of our freedoms and rights. They even have been in the past.
11) Your statement "Your kind criticizes, idealizes and philosophies" POT, KETTLE, BLACK
12) "Your kind is just TALK, is never grateful and is never thankful! (ie. whines like cry babies). In short, dad, you fit the definition of a left wing liberal!" See 11 above. Also this is such a gross generalization as to be absurd.
13) I believe that your opinions, and how you represent them are a threat to our individual liberties and freedoms. The apathy demonstrated in your posts are why government in our country or any other countries are able to remove the rights and freedoms of the people they are supposed to over see and protect.
"I know it's an advanced method of thinking and discussing things, but give it a try."
common sense is a good enough standard for me. advanced stuff is probably too hard for your brain to comprehend.
1) Why would you feel offended by anyone's philosophy?
again, I am not offended by anyone's philosophy. everyone is entitled to their belief system and philosophy eventhough their are dead wrong! I just dont like your kind of people. Do I have to like you?
2) Who cares what "kind" you like or not?
I do. I dont like to surround myself with liberals like you and whiners and crybabies like those others.
3) It doesn't matter whose existence you tolerate or not.
It does matter! Every human being MUST tolerate other human being's existence, regardless of their beliefs, status and inteligence. That's what separates human from animals.
4) I am proud to be an American
Good for you! Every American should!
5) I am proud of my government.
Again Good for you! Every citizen should!
5a) Our government needs a lot of work to become better
Yes, no government or system of government is perfect! I already said our country is not a perfect country! But by far is THE BEST, I believe, because of our Constitution that guarantees our individual freedom, and ensure the balance of power among the three branches of our governmental systems!
5b) It's our responsibilities as citizens to be watchdogs of what our government does and that it looks after the rights of ALL it's citizens.
We, the people, are the government! Those government officials are our representatives, NOT OUR ENEMY! They are there to run the daily chores of government and provide stability and safety for all! We also have the RESPONSIBILITY to obey the rules of law. Remember, with every rights comes the resposibility!
6) It's MY country also.
Isnt is awesome? Only in America... fresh air of freedom!
7) I'd never give up my life for the constitution, but I would give it up defending my country. I have served in the military.
our Constitution is the foundation of this country. the greatest invention ever created by our forefathers. You should defend the Constitution at all cost.
8)Our constitution was not written as a complete document. That is why we have amendments, and the ability to amend it. It's not nearly as good as the constitution we wrote for Japan after WWII.
True, the spirit of our Constitution will ensure our freedom as long as it stays as our foundation. Supreme court judges, government officials, government parties and legislators will come and go but as long as our Constitution stays, your freedom stays!
9) Whose "KIND" is stripping "our nation's historical heritage and religious rights"?
the left wing liberals, the atheists, the abortionists and those bas**rds in the Americans for Separation of church and state are those I am very concerned about. They are threat to our Constitution. They are like parasites doing damage from within!
10) Our government as well as the lawmakers and laws they pass have the ability to be the enemy of our freedoms and rights. They even have been in the past.
Beside slavery, abortion and civil rights violations in the 60s (ie. segregations), give me more examples! Remember even the US Supreme Court can be dead wrong!
11) Your statement "Your kind criticizes, idealizes and philosophies" POT, KETTLE, BLACK
Talk is CHEAP! I dont like people that just criticize, idealize and philosophie and DO NOTHING! Let me repeat, I dont like complainers, whiners and crybabies!
12) "Your kind is just TALK, is never grateful and is never thankful! (ie. whines like cry babies). In short, dad, you fit the definition of a left wing liberal!" See 11 above. Also this is such a gross generalization as to be absurd.
I am sad to tell you that this kind of people exists. Talk without action is DEAD, NADA, NEIL, ZILT!!
13) I believe that your opinions, and how you represent them are a threat to our individual liberties and freedoms. The apathy demonstrated in your posts are why government in our country or any other countries are able to remove the rights and freedoms of the people they are supposed to over see and protect.
You're wrong bud! I speak my mind and have strong feelings on issues. Just use your common sense. The groups I mentioned above are the real threats to our Constitution. I predict within 10-15 years from now, if they are not contained, America will not be America. We'll see!
Um........Joe McCarthy and his witch hunt? All the spying J. Edgar Hoover did?
"Beside slavery, abortion and civil rights violations in the 60s (ie. segregations), give me more examples! Remember even the US Supreme Court can be dead wrong!"
We can start with the Alien Sedition Act. I believe this law was passed around 1800.
Dred Scott - the infamous Supreme Court case affirming that Blacks were not equal.
The internment of American citizens of Japanese descent in WWII.
"9) Whose "KIND" is stripping "our nation's historical heritage and religious rights"?
the left wing liberals, the atheists, the abortionists and those bas**rds in the Americans for Separation of church and state are those I am very concerned about. They are threat to our Constitution. They are like parasites doing damage from within!"
I fail to see how an organization that is dedicated to protecting the First Amendment clause respecting the establishment of state religion is a threat to our country. On the contrary, some of the most oppressive regimes of the current era have wrapped themselves in religion (i.e.: Iraq, Afghanistan (sp?)). Practice whatever religion, or lack thereof, to your heart's content. Just don't try to use the government to force it down my throat (or my children's). Thank God for the Americans for Separation of church and state! (pun intended)
If anything, those groups are forcing us to accept their views down our throats! They are NOT protecting your first Amendment! Study more about who they are and what they do and you'll see!
"If anything, those groups are forcing us to accept their views down our throats! They are NOT protecting your first Amendment! Study more about who they are and what they do and you'll see!"
From your posts, it appears you are willing to force and accept your views. How are you any different than they are? Everyone else is wrong in your viewpoint, and you've expressed that numerous times. And, since you're a person of action you're also willing to make sure that those are put in place. So, now you're also affecting their first amendment rights. Or do those only apply to you and those with your viewpoints?
1)"again, I am not offended by anyone's philosophy. everyone is entitled to their belief system and philosophy eventhough their are dead wrong! I just dont like your kind of people. Do I have to like you?"
My kind of people? *blink* You don't know what or who my kind of people are. "dead wrong?" Nice opinion. Not relevant. It doesn't matter to me if you like me or not. There is nothing about you that would make me care one way or the other, and is again not relevant.
2)"I do. I dont like to surround myself with liberals like you and whiners and crybabies like those others."
It doesn't matter what kind you like or not. Secondarily, I am not a liberal, although it is interesting that you're that far right as to make it seem that way.
3) "It does matter! Every human being MUST tolerate other human being's existence, regardless of their beliefs, status and inteligence. That's what separates human from animals."
You missed the point. You're not significant in the realm of life as to have it matter if you tolerate anyone or not.
4)NC
5)NC
5a)You didn't address the issue.
5b)"Those government officials are our representatives, NOT OUR ENEMY! They are there to run the daily chores of government and provide stability and safety for all! We also have the RESPONSIBILITY to obey the rules of law. Remember, with every rights comes the resposibility!"
They're clearly not my representative, otherwise they'd be doing different things. Obey the "rules of law"? Not sure what it is you're trying to say there. Remember "Civil disobedience", Boston tea party? How America was founded? It wasn't by obeying the "law" at that time.
6)NC
7)"our Constitution is the foundation of this country. the greatest invention ever created by our forefathers. You should defend the Constitution at all cost."
Phrase one, true. Phrase two, nonsense, and it’s not even completely the way they wanted it either. It was a compromise. Phrase three, I absolutely defend it, and the rights we have to change it, effect change in how it's enforced, and complain, bitch, write my congress man, and do whatever else is required to highlight the fact that the "laws" passed are infringing on that same document you hold with your life. Very nice of you by the way.
8)NC
9)"the left wing liberals, the atheists, the abortionists and those bas**rds in the Americans for Separation of church and state are those I am very concerned about. They are threat to our Constitution. They are like parasites doing damage from within!"
See, within the framework of the constitution and laws of our country, they have the RIGHT to do what they are. You are not only whining, bitching and complaining about it, but in the same breath telling the rest of us to stop whining bitching and complaining. It must be nice for you to sit at such a high level of judgment as to be so absolute and direct with your assertions about others.
10) “Beside slavery, abortion and civil rights violations in the 60s (ie. segregations), give me more examples! Remember even the US Supreme Court can be dead wrong!“
With as well studied and knowledgeable as you claim, I'm sure you have a vast knowledge of more already. I see that others have already chimed in with more. You've not provided support for your assertions or arguments.
11) “Talk is CHEAP! I dont like people that just criticize, idealize and philosophie and DO NOTHING! Let me repeat, I dont like complainers, whiners and crybabies! “
*YAWN* Yet, you are, one as you've clearly demonstrated in your ramblings in the various posts. Don't be too hard on yourself and hate yourself too much.
12) Again, you didn't address anything.
13) “You're wrong bud! I speak my mind and have strong feelings on issues. Just use your common sense. The groups I mentioned above are the real threats to our Constitution. I predict within 10-15 years from now, if they are not contained, America will not be America. We'll see! “
I am not wrong, any more than you are wrong. We have different viewpoints, opinions, ideals, and morals values. Fortunately for us both, we're free to express them and support them as we choose, and our constitution gives us that right. It appears to me that you want to get rid of anything different than what YOU believe is correct. If I recall history correctly, Hitler held the same opinion. Anyone can have strong feelings and speak their mind about them. That doesn't make what they feel or say "right", it just makes them express who they are.
"Common sense" is a myth. There isn't such a thing. Either that or it's not all that common as to be common.
“10 – 15 years?” I remember that same statement made by many people when I was 9 years old. America, like any social culture is subject to change. That is the only constant you’ll find. The “America” we have now is NOT the “America” we had 20 years ago, thankfully. And, it’s not the “America” we had at the founding of the constitution. By Nostradomus! I do believe you’re finally right about something!
there is no right or wrong!
I can be as right as you are or as wrong as you are...
Hitler this and that... Can you discern at all?
common sense is a myth... oh please! use it!
who's talking nonsense?
In my eyes, you're making no sense at all!
What you said is a bunch of nonsense!
You have no foundation on anything!
You are so caught up on winning or losing arguments!
Do you believe that there are ABSOLUTES in life?
that there are RIGHT and WRONG?
that there are GOOD and EVIL?
Oh I forgot... you'll say NO SUCH OF THINGS mentioned above!
Do you believe in anything?
Do you believe what you believe?
Do you act out on what you believe is true?
I guess you're just one of them relativists or agnostics!
Or what are you?

I wanted to say that it's great to see some healthy debating. The passion for this country is great no matter what "side" you may be taking.
I for one don't believe our leaders are representing me or my fellow Americans interests.
On the national level, Lou Dobbs on Cnn Moneyline did a poll regarding legalizing the 15-20 million illegals in this country. Over 80% that answered this poll were against. It appears that Karl Rove will act against Americans wishes and still try to railroad rights and citizenship for Illegals. To me this shows that our government officials are loyal to business that wants the cheap labor, and not to the ordinary citizens that are against it. It takes some nerve to go against the wishes of such a high majority.
On the local level, in San Marcos the local city officials are being loyal to big business again and not the residents of San Marcos. The officials have changed zoning laws to allow a huge walmart to be built. They don't seem to care what the locals think, 99% of the residents are against walmart being built. However the local government is ignoring their wishes and railroading this giant piece of crap (walmart)into the neighborhood.
These examples tell me that our officials are completely out of touch with their citiens no matter at what level they serve.
What was wrong with the country 20 years ago. I was just a youngster back then. What sticks out the most to me was the failed "trickle down economics" by Ronald Reagan. (sp). Also the ensuing lack of discipline regarding tearing up the environment to turn a profit.
It's easy to gripe about things. much harder to bring about change.
Congress decided to make anabolic steroids a Schedule III drug, (Highly addictive nacotics), equivalent to things like heroin, cocaine etc. They did this despite the studies by the DEA and HHS that not only disproved the assertions made by the two congressmen railroading this through, and both agencies recommended against putting them on Schedule III. It still got through. Now, mind you that in that "steroid" list, only male steroids are on it, no female steroids are.
>> there is no right or wrong!
There are "rights" and "wrongs", it's more a matter of who is "right" and who is "wrong". Being the world traveler as you so proclaim, you surely must have seen enough differentiations of that.
>> I can be as right as you are or as wrong as you are...
Absolutely
>> Hitler this and that... Can you discern at all?
Clearly I can discern significantly better than you appear to be able to.
>> common sense is a myth... oh please! use it!
“Common sense is a MYTH” Specifically since it there is nothing “COMMON” about it. Again being the world traveler as you are, surely you have seen that what seems “common sense” to one person is not the same “common sense” as another. Although, my version of “common sense” tells me that you’re so busy name-calling and self righteousness that it doesn’t matter what anyone else says, you’re too wrapped up in your own self-delusion as to see anything else around you.
>> who's talking nonsense?
You are.
>> In my eyes, you're making no sense at all!
It seems that a lot of things make no sense in your eyes. That doesn’t make it so, it just makes it so for you.
>> What you said is a bunch of nonsense!
>> You have no foundation on anything!
Nice assertion, however, you haven’t given any information, evidence, or proof that shows I have no foundation, let alone on anything.
>> You are so caught up on winning or losing arguments!
It doesn’t matter about winning or losing. To carry on a rational discussion and exchange of ideas, and diverging opinions is what I want.
>> Do you believe that there are ABSOLUTES in life?
Death and taxes are absolutes in life.
>> that there are RIGHT and WRONG?
Right and wrong are relative constructions. Again, as a self-proclaimed world traveler, you must have witnessed that what is “right” or “wrong” is different every where you go and if you haven’t had your head in the sand, you’ll see that in any discussions as well.
>> that there are GOOD and EVIL?
Again, these terms are relative constructions. What you perceive as “good” or “evil” isn’t the same as what others think is so. A brief perusal of any number of religious beliefs will give you a better notion of that. The Islamic nations tend to think of the US as a great “evil”. In the US, we tend to think of ourselves as “good”.
>> Oh I forgot... you'll say NO SUCH OF THINGS mentioned above!
You make a very poor prognosticator.
>> Do you believe in anything?
Yes
>> Do you believe what you believe?
Yes
>> Do you act out on what you believe is true?
Yes
>> I guess you're just one of them relativists or agnostics!
You’re not only poorly equipped to carry on relevant and cohesive discussion, it appears from your postings that what you do believe in isn’t capable of standing up to any debate, let alone rigorous debate. So instead of continuing to debate issues, you have to resort to name calling and diversion. Nice 3rd grade tactic.
Oh, and I’m not an agnostic. Poorly demonstrated prognostication skills again. You need to take up a different mud slinging tact.
>> Or what are you?
I’m a US citizen, a male human being. I have as much right to my viewpoints, ideas, moral values, as anyone else does.
>> "the left wing liberals, the atheists, the abortionists and those bas**rds in the Americans for Separation of church and state are threats to your constitutional rights" ->>BH
HOW do >> "the left wing liberals, the atheists, the abortionists and those bas**rds in the Americans for Separation of church and state” create a threat to your constitutional rights? Or constitution provides for the differences we have in this country. For someone who is willing to die for his constitution, you sure don’t know very much about it. Or are you just willing to die for one that supports only your significantly narrow minded viewpoints?
Come to think of it, maybe you’re not a Jerry SpringerBot, maybe you’re just another mindless Rush LimbaughBot.
Okay ONEBUSY...you crossed the line with the LimbaughBot smack.

typical relativist's views!
>> who's talking nonsense?

Nope, you are... you're not making sense at all! To you it's all about debate, winning the debate and eloquently putting down your opponent with your debating skills... Your debating skils dont mean anything to me. You're just wrong in my eyes!
>> In my eyes, you're making no sense at all!
It seems that a lot of things make no sense in your eyes. That doesn’t make it so, it just makes it so for you.
again, relativism, relativism, relativism! thin air! thin air thin air!

the truth hurts!

It doesn’t matter about winning or losing. To carry on a rational discussion and exchange of ideas, and diverging opinions is what I want.
no it's not what you want. you just can't lose debating! you always downplay anything significant. if God comes down from heaven and appears in front of you, you'll say, there is NO GOD!
>> Do you believe that there are ABSOLUTES in life?
Death and taxes are absolutes in life
that's it? there are more than those two things!

here again, to you it's all about debate and winning it. you remind me of my ex-roomate, smart, graduated with cum-laude, very eloquent, always has better things to say and yet he was a self proclaimed agnostic and twisted in his own mind! He said many of the same things you said above! and he was dead wrong on many things he believes in! just like you!
Oh, and I’m not an agnostic. Poorly demonstrated prognostication skills again. You need to take up a different mud slinging tact.
again, it's all about debate. and you think you're so skillful. you always have a better thing to say to me just like my ex-roomate and that's fine. I still think you're wrong and making no sense to me!

Come to think of it, maybe you’re not a Jerry SpringerBot, maybe you’re just another mindless Rush LimbaughBot.
hahaha very funny! you should be a comedian. I guess we cant change each others's point of view! I still think you're wrong! Sorry!
It doesn't matter that you think I'm wrong or anyone else is wrong. You've given no information to describe, or demonstrate why you are right and anyone else is wrong.
You've been highly adept at name calling, labeling and mud-slinging, but haven't given any information, evidence, relative or rational information to support your viewpoint. You've even been completely wrong with you other assertions and labels.
So, it appears that what this has come down to is that you're not capable of carrying on an form of adult conversation, discussion or debate. But, that is ok. You just fall into the lemming-like masses with opinions and ideas and no rational for them.It doesn't matter that you think I'm wrong or anyone else is wrong. "I do. I dont like to surround myself with liberals like you and whiners and crybabies like those others"
When I hear a statement like this, it gives me the impression that I am dealing with a closed-minded person that has already made up his/her mind and is no longer listening but just going through the motions. I'm not sure anymore what the terms "liberal" and "conservative" mean.
Although, I'd be more inclinded to argue that he's mearly deaf, dumb and blind.
I guess you're fortunate that I am not a debater! All my life I've been trained and schooled in the field of exact sciences! To me, you are a relativist! and a relativist has no base on anything!
Wanna know the truth?
when you said, "common sense is a myth", I thought right away what a fool you are!
when you said, "good and evil is a relative construction", I thought to myself what a twisted mind you are. you just cant stand your ground saying I am right and they are wrong!
you're not worthy of my time, you foolish and twisted mind!!
you're the kind I avoid!
have a nice life you bast**rd!
The truth is, you are a relativist. To claim otherwise is to reveal yourself as a liar. Here is how you are a relativist. As soon as something changes in your life, you view it differently. It becomes relative to your new viewpoint. If the government changes a law that outlaws something you previously did, you'll change what you do because you are a law abiding citizen and wouldn't dare whine or cry about it. So your behaviour changes relative to what your "good" government has done. To do otherwise would cause you to be a liar with your previous declarations about obeying the law.
As you have learned throughout your life, you changed relative to what you experienced.
I know I'm trying to teach a pig to sing, but it's still fun.
You are not wrong; it's just that your head is so far up your backside that your vision is impaired.
"I know you are, but what am I?" One of these days you may actually get past 3rd grade reasoning and discussion skills.
Two Points:
1. I am also a "conservative" (although I may change my position if dubya is re-elected) but I can almost always learn something from "liberals" when I listen to them.
2. Please refer to the link for valuable info
