Mike's BBQ in Escondido

Try Mikes BBQ on West Valley Parkway in Escondido. Good food and usually not so loud you have to shout to be heard.

North county BBQ

There is always Phil's BBQ, though I'm not a big fan. Several locations around the area. My personal preference is Dave's BBQ in Vista. Its a mid-western chain, but tasty. There is also a Brett's BBQ in 4S Ranch (just west of Rancho Bernardo).

You can't get really good BBQ in California due to pollution controls. My favorite spot in Tampa FL was often filled with hickory smoke to the point you could barely see from one side to the other.
