Researchers compared the self-reports of 177 porn actresses to a sample of women matched on age, ethnicity, and marital status. Comparisons were conducted on sexual behaviors and attitudes, self-esteem, quality of life and drug use.

Notice they didn't comment on abuse. I've known more than a few women who were abused as kids/young adults. Through their 20s and early 30s, these women all seem to believe that it didn't affect them, or that it wasn't a contributing factor to the development of their personalities and attitudes towards sex.

As they matured, they invariably had problems keeping successful long term relationships and displayed issues with intimacy. At that point, pretty much every single one realized/admitted that the abuse screwed them up pretty badly.

NOTE: I'm NOT saying all (or even most) pornstars are former victims of abuse. But the women I've personally known to be rather exhibitionistic have a high coincidence of sexual abuse in their background. I AM saying that if someone was sexually abused, they almost definitely have major issues, especially if they're untreated.

Porn Stars Have Higher Self-Esteem Than Other Women: Study

Maybe all the self-loathing associated with porn emanates from those watching it on their computer screen, not those performing on it.

A new study challenges stereotypes of porn stars having poor self-images and a history of sexual abuse. The research, which is published in the latest edition of the Journal of Sex Research, suggests that porn stars have higher self-esteem, a better quality of life and body image, and are more spiritual than their non-adult entertainment counterparts.

I had just read the same article tonight. Its nice to see the main stream media print something that is somewhat positive regarding porn stars. I wish I could call all of my favorite stars and ask them personally how they feel!

...spirituality and she said: Yes, yes, yes!!!" and "Oh God!!!"

They also have an article that reads Bigfoot is real...177 is hardly a sample size that is worth reporting on.

If you read the article (as opposed to reading the the thread topic line here and commenting on THAT) you will clearly see that it was published by the Huffington Post. The Huffington Post is hardly a bastion of sensationalism, gossip, or salacious rumor...not by any stretch of the most willfully biased imagination. As such, comparing it to sites that post articles about Bigfoot being real is not comparing apples to oranges..it's more akin to comparing apple to orangutans. Just thinking (correctly) out loud.
