I've attempted to setup meetings in LA with some very well known providers, most of whom I've seen before. I've worked with several agencies for years.

I've managed to book only one. The others are all no longer available, per their agents. I'm told they're all focused on their onlyfans / web businesses. They're not feature dancing, not touring, and not providing.

The implications are far reaching. New talent is avoiding getting into porn altogether, going directly the onlyfans/ IG girl route. Of the porn stars who started in 2017 or later, I count only a handful as truly attractive.

I'm not sure how the production companies will survive if they can't recruit new talent. It's also going to be hard for strip clubs to stay in business, as girls who would work as dancers are also going the onlyfans route.

I do think it's only fair that the girls get a larger portion of the revenue for the content they produce. Some are doing extremely well, and it also seems this has finally solved the problem of piracy.  

It comes at the expense of hobbyists, though. The production quality is nowhere near as good as it was with the big studios. And personally, I can't get excited paying a few bucks a month to watch a girl put up some crummy webcam content, knowing I can never fulfill the fantasy in person.  

The industry has gone full circle. We're back to peep shows. Porn is on its way out, and it is going to take the hobby with it.  

You make some good points. All businesses evolve, and to be clear, "sex" is always going to sell in some way, shape or form.

But we're going to get far less for our money now.  

To make high quality movies with cream of the crop talent, the production companies would need to pay the talent enough to overcome the opportunity cost of onlyfans / IG / sextpanther and all the other avenues. They'd have to pay them far more than the $2000 or so that has long been a market rate for top talent on a shoot. We know this because these girls can easily fetch that kind of money in the hobby market for an hour's work -- and the overwhelming majority are turning down the opportunity.

To stay in business, these production companies would have to pass these costs on to consumers. And find a way to effectively overcome piracy. It has yet to be done for content. Are consumers willing to bear that cost? I don't know.

I think that Covid, HIV, and the "#metoo" movement has a lot to do with why the girls are not going into porn the way they used to. The girls know that going the Onlyfans route means they have full control over what gets produced, and distributed, as well as making the lion's share of the money instead of it all going to producers, agents, etc. It also means they don't have to give blowjobs (or more) to sleazy agents or producers as part of an "interview" to get a part in a film.

On the other hand, they don't get as wide distribution through OnlyFans alone, and they have to spend a lot of time self-promoting. To find the OnlyFans content, you have to find the girl first which means they have to spend a lot of time on sites like Streamate and Chaturbate and MyFreeCams or one of the other streaming sites. And they have to go to a lot more shows than they would otherwise, and pay their own way since there's no studio backing them and paying their expenses. That means less profit.

There are certainly pluses and minuses to going the OnlyFans route, or distributing your own material through other pay sites. I think, eventually, once the pandemic is over, more of them will turn to "professional" outlets again.

As for this hobby... well, just because they are on OnlyFans or some other site, and not professional actresses does not mean that they do not provide. That is to say, I've heard that a lot of the cam girls do provide on the side - you just have to know who and how to contact them. And I suspect more will in the future.

French, good points. I also think going the stream route is much more socially acceptable, especially if they keep it softcore.

One provider that I've seen several times used to advertise with all agencies. She also used to book directly on eros in her hometown. Now she's on social media threatening to reveal an athlete for trying to "buy" her. To me, this feels very sanctimonious.

Only Fans has changed the equation.

for some (and really it's also a rich get richer fable) it provides a more steady income without the wear and tear of escorting (imaging knocking on stranger's doors 5 times a week to go have sex).    

on the other hand, there's a LOT of work and grinding to make that only fans content.  they have to shoot themselves or pay talent themselves at times. now the ones with 200k followers have an instant market to leverage, still OnlyFans girls are continually offering discounts to keep their subsciber base up, unlike IG or Twtter, followers actually do drop off (and drop off BIG-TIME, because it gets 'old' fast DM'ing for $10 to what is a complete stranger and paying overpriced fees for content they can get the equivalent of for free.  But it's also a world-wide market.  It's a numbers game.    I know of one making $20 k a month on OF, but having to spend 5k+ just to maintain, assistant (and yes OF has spawned the job title of porn assistant who sits there and pretends to be the person you are talking to lol) - what a racket.

Some girls have a million followers or more. Some have several million. And the top girls like Mia Khalifa have 10 million or more. How she ever got popular at all boggles my mind, but a topic for another time.

 A very small percentage of these followers translates into paying customers. Anywhere from 0.1% to 2%. Fast food restaurants use the same model to predict how many customers they'll have per day, based on the traffic that walks / drives by.

If 50,000 guys pay $5 a month, the girl grosses $250k per month.  Just over $8000 a day. $3m a year. That doesn't include extras like private videos and special features people pay extra for. The numbers are staggering, and the girls are very careful NOT to let their fans realize how much they're making. If the fans could figure it out, they'd probably get  jealous and be less willing to pay.

It took these girls years to build up that kind of following. But they've created a strong enough brand that I think they can ride this out for a few more years without ever having to film for big production companies again or see hobbyists. If and only if the market collectively refuses to pay for their shitty content will something change.

Does anyone know the fee structure at those places?  The website operators are surely taking a cut and probably a significant one.

OnlyFans, from what I heard on one of the business channels, wants to do an IPO soon which means in order to attract investors, they may need to 'alter' the content to make it more attractive to investors and users. Investors don't want to be associated with porn (unless they get the porn industry to back them), but it still limits their reach.  

Time will tell once they do the IPO...

It has endured and until technology comes up with an adequate substitute for the real act of flesh to flesh interaction it will last. The issue is more that ways need to be found to adapt to the new circumstances much as the hobby existed before any form of "porn media" and persisted through early photography and silent film and all the way through the golden age of porn and now the complete democratizing of porn. The difference is we will need to approach things differently. I have contacted onlyfans and camgirls directly. It's a numbers game, granted, but some are willing or even use it to promote their in person services indirectly. The market will adjust. It may take time and some things may never be the way they were but that's the nature of advancements and markets. Things will change and markets will correct. Some of us might not have the money and the women we normally think of or look to might either not be available or financially unfeasible. That being said there will also be new blood as well as the market corrections that bring some back to earth. I have already seen one prolific performer and companion state blatantly that she would only be working for herself and not shooting with any companies or seeing clients any longer while moving out of California, marrying and buying a house due to her onlyfans success. She has since resurfaced and is once again available. The more things change, the more they stay the same. It's still gonna be there it's just gonna be different and for those of us who have been in the hobby for a while or come to expect a certain set of rules it might be a difficult, or for some, impossible change. None the less there will always be providers and clients.

I believed it at first.  One of the more dreaded bookers I won’t mention with A list milf talent said no one would tour anymore because they were making 50k a month.  Not sure of that, and not sure that was the reason.  
I see several still touring, Brandi Love for one, Nicolette Shea (not good)  and allot of new talent touring.  Plus a surge of other model types from all over.   It’s never been better.

Has anyone tried it?  It sucks.  I tried Aletta Ocean (still a provider), Jasmine Jae, Ava Addams among others.  They’ll never respond to you and blow up your inbox with content trying bait and switch and up charging.  Your also bombarded with other models looking for you to subscribe seems saturated to me.  Only amateur content like wettmellons or missalexa are worthwhile because their incredibly professional and good content always coming but do you want to pay for content watching the same couple have sex on your dime?  Feel pretty low doing that.

A really great model provider told me the fewest of the few make big money and takes allot of time to keep it going.  I just think the nature of porn has changed again, and only fans isn’t the primary reason someone won’t tour.  Like maybe just a part of it.  For me allot of favs are getting old.

Respectfully, I believe the OP is engaging in a little "Chicken Little Syndrome."

Granted, those RARE and FEW porn SUPERSTARS may be able to make a decent living without having to leave the comfort of their bedrooms via an "OnlyFans."  So be it.

But, the lifespan of a PS career is probably SHORTER than that of professional escorts.

For those "newbies" coming through the pipeline to fill those slots, they must be dreaming if they think they can command such an income from an "OnlyFans" alone.

That's where the production companies still have the advantage - MARKETING, MARKETING MARKETING, putting these young ladies in quality productions and promoting the hell out of 'em.

Plus, think about the "progress" that we as a society have made in such a relatively short period of time, where such stars as Vanessa Del Rio, or Christy Canyon, might have been seen as RARE freaks, and ostracized by society, NOW people barely bat an eye if they find out someone has appeared in porn.  Heck, some have even gone on to become "respectable" members of society (Kim Kardashian and her BFF, Paris Hilton come to mind).

What does this all mean?  With all these "kids" getting off buses in LA every day, looking to pursue that pornstar dream, MORE than ever they need some "entity" to PROMOTE them if they're even gonna bring that dream to fruition, and that's where these production companies come in.  Plus, if they wanna make some additional income, they could always moonlight as escorts, so, no, I don't think we're quite at the "end of the hobby," like the OP stated.

The rare and few super stars who are making a living from their sofa -- I've seen damn near all of them, and most of the others were available at some point. Can't get 'em now.  

When I started in the hobby, there were at least 20 girls I was willing to pay to see. That's an understatement -- there were 20 girls I would have killed to see. Almost all lived in LA. I had to prioritize according to budget and logistics.
 
I struggle to think of five I'd pay to see who have started their careers in the last five years. Alina is definitely one.  

I think the hype around OF will die down. I subscribed to one over the weekend and I've already canceled my membership.  

Earlier I said I thought it was crazy that guys pay $5 a month for low quality content in front of a webcam. I couldn't have been more wrong. You pay $5 a month for NO content.

If you want anything beyond a few recycled still photos and short video announcements, you have to pay for it.

You are bombarded with mass messages that are money grabs and upsells.

As others have stated here, it seems most of the providers have hired assistants to help them manage all the conversations. The low level stuff, they can do without involving the provider. When a fan wants something custom, and is willing to pay for it, that's when something gets scheduled with the boss. I was quoted $500 for a 5 minute zoom call. And the provider wanted to do it while on her peloton.  

Full disclosure, the same provider was available and used to charge $2500 an hour. I am sure their day to day lives are a grind -- every day they have to interact with hordes of new customers. It's a massive short money hustle -- a $5 tip here, $20 to get them to "grade" your pic, etc.  

There used to be phone sex hot lines. People used to rent movies at hotels. Everything changes, so will this. But the best of the hobby is behind us.

Saw her feature several times.  Probably the greatest natural body in her prime, great way to learn what real breasts look like.

You may be right that the "best of the hobby,"" specifically where REAL porn stars are concerned, is behind us.  Just too many revenue streams, aside from escorting, for them to tap into.  

Ironically, MANY years ago (pre-internet!), when I first got into the "game," if I had know that porn stars also acted as escorts, it would've blown my mind!  Unfortunately, by the time I found out, most of 'em, at least the CLASSIC ones from back in the day, were already on their way out.  I still pine for "Stevie."  If anyone remembers her, she was this sexy, busty Texan with a filthy mouth, who made the sexiest videos.  Unfortunately, I waited too long to pull the trigger, and last I read, she went on to pursue a nursing career.  Aside from her, I gotta laugh when I see these wanna be "porn stars" now, you know, these "kids" who were actually "flutters" and extras on films, having the BALLS to charge $1.5K for an appointment, to which I say "GTFOH!"  

Yeah, "OnlyFans" is a total RIP-OFF, even with these supposedly "free" subscriptions.  What they don't tell you is that there's virtually NO content, and that you gotta pay for ANYTHING worthy that lasts more than a few minutes.  By the time you add it up, you might as well just get a subscription to a producer like "Bang Bros."  At least you get HIGH production values, and feature length videos for your money!  

In CONCEPT, "OnlyFans" could've been a GREAT way to meet and hookup with "talent," especially NEW ones.

Unfortunately, my understanding is that they're VERY strict in terms of having ANY form of "escorting" even mentioned on the site, to the point of booting these potential providers off the site if they even try.  

So, I have neither the time or the patience to "beat around the bush" and try to come up with a way to ask whether a girl "provides" or not, without being explicit.  Like that internet meme says, "ain't nobody got time for that!"  

So checked out another review site and used the filter for the "porn star" and wow, the majority of ladies they had listed as porn stars were ROUGH LOOKING. It was one of those sites where they attach picture to the profile and majority of the profile pics looked like bad quality selfies done with burner phones. I highly doubt all those profiles were actually porn stars, probably they let anyone click on box for pornstar without actually verifying the provider is a porn star.

Really, it is kind of amazing how much more a provider can charge if they add pornstar to the resume.

I remember seeing an ad for local girl charging $1500 for an overnight (Don't remember her name).  She later did a handful of scenes and was calling herself a porn star.  A few years after seeing that local ad, I saw her profile on Pamela Peak's site and she was charging $1500 an hour lol. Quite a jump, just for filming a few scenes. Honestly was kind of surprised as I didn't find her attractive, but some people did and were fine with paying her 1500 for a single hour when a few years earlier they could have had her for the entire night for that rate.

The girls are learning what a lot of us already know who have been hobbying for years.  It takes a lot of work to run your own business....
