I thought all the rooms at a Ranch had recording devices to, among other things, keep this kind of situation from happening...thoughts?

I do not believe that the rooms at the BunnyRanch or Chicken Ranch or any other ranch in Nevada have any recording devices, audio or video or otherwise.  The only "intrusion," if you can call it that, is the signal to the room if the lady runs over her scheduled/negotiated time which, in Sunset's case, happens quite often.

Just for the record, though, I would tend to believe Sunset's side of the story.  She is the most enthusiastic provider that I have ever encountered, and in addition to being fun and funny and sexy and gorgeous, she is determined to have her customers completely satisfied.  I cannot imagine Sunset Thomas denying a customer any service that he (or she or they) has paid for.

And I have no idea who the "plaintiff" in this case is, but the article portrays him as obsessed, and a possible stalker.

My understanding is that there are listening devices in each room but they are not turned on all the time.  They are there to protect the girls and my guess is were not turned on for a "repeat" customer who has not caused problems in the past.

I don't know about recording devices.  I've been told that the Bunny Ranch has recording devices in some of the rooms which were put in place when they were making their HBO series but, even when they were filming for the series, the recording devices were not on without permission of both the client and the girl.

I believe Nevada is a "two-party state" which means, generally, that all of the parties involved in a conversation must consent to the conversation being recorded.  So, even if Sunset's conversations were recorded unless the guy had consented to the recording, the ranch would be in serious trouble if they revealed the existence of a tape.  Oh, and that consent had better be on the tape. :-)

In any case, I've talked with Sunset on occasion in the past.  I know the type of person she is, and I know that she does give out her phone number to clients and potential clients (I had her number at one time).  I believe her.  I know some guys cannot distinguish between the business/hobby and a "personal" relationship.  The line does get blurred a bit sometimes but we have to remember that even a girl that provides a "girlfriend experience" is not a real "girlfriend".  I think this guy forgot that and now wants to "punish" Sunset for not leaving her husband for him.

There are speakers in the rooms, to let a girl know that the time is up, and a panic button for a girl to push, and she can then speak to the office.  As for Nevada being a two-party-state,  that's not completely true, they way the law is written, it's a real gray area.  Doing searches on the subject, NV. sometime comes up  as one party, with an explanation, and sometime as a 2.

As for Sunset, I believe her side of the story, and trust me on this, her explanation is an all too frequent pitfall of this business.

What I should have said, is this, they let you know when it's time to "re-book", not that their time is up.  Using the proper terms, encourages the guy to re-book, i.e., more money for her, and of course the house.

Not to argue with you Kathy but my search shows that NV is a two-party state.  While the law may be unclear, the court decisions have not been.  The courts have repeatedly said that it's a two-party state... except in emergency situations.  At least the court decisions I can access online...

And I forgot about the book/rebook uses of the intercom.  I should have remembered that.  I'm getting old. :-)

Just did a quick search, it's gray, when you can argue that getting a subpoena is not practical, and not needed for conversation between cell phones.

Based on that condition, then ALL laws are grey in ALL localities because the police (and others) can always argue that the laws don't apply in the given situation.  There are hundreds of exceptions to the warrant laws, many of which fall under the Patriot Act because The Supreme Court has said that the Patriot Act trumps all other laws, including the U.S. Constitution.

In general practice, that's not how things work.  In most cases, it's very clear - it's actually very rare for police to use the Patriot Act, or other exceptions.  And, according to the lawyer I talked to this morning who specializes in this area of law, it's clear - NV is a two-party state.  If you record someone in NV without their permission, you can expect to go to jail if caught and a complaint is filed

I believe that you have focused on the "heart" of this story, Mr. French.  In the big picture, choices in the sexual and romantic world fall between the extremes of Total Monogamy and Total Promiscuity.  The only way that it is possible to have a lasting relationship in the worlds of Porn and Prostitution is to take the attitude, for example, that Francesca Le and Mark Wood have:  the secret of their relationship is that they allow each other to "F*ck other people."  A person has to be genuinely open minded to have such a lasting "open" relationship.  But some people, by nature and experience, are extremely possessive; the best advice anyone can give to them is "don't try to find a real girlfriend in the worlds of Porn or Prostitution."
