When a somone has a readily identifiable presence in the porn industry... i.e. ohers would know who you are.
Having done a movie or two and posted it online does not make one a porn star... but may very well make them more desireable if they are good at what they do!
If you make a sex video that is shared on the Internet, would that automatically make you a porn star? What would be consider the bench mark?? Do you need to do a few homemade videos or do you need to sign on to a company and make a lot of them?? I had the pleasure of doing a few videos for a local San Diego provider. If you check out my reviews, you'll know whom I'm talking about. I don't know if I can mention her name but she is fun to be with. Any and all feed back would be welcome. Thank you.
with just a cameo. I have seen ladies advertise calling themselves porn stars but searching through the whole internet can't find shit and yet they are charging exorbitant fees $1200-2000/hour.
I have an "issue" with this also, when I see the ad says "porn star" I go to this site which lists thousands of ladies, most often than not her name is no where to be found on that site OR she has maybe 3-4 videos, certainly not enough to classify her as a " porn star"
are not. Unless they have been a lot of vids, and have a name that guys will recognize, they are not a pornstar. IMHO, pornstar is a name that a lot of girls have adopted if they did one or two scenes. So who really cares???? For me, a porn star is someone like Christy CAnyon, Jenna Jameson, and many others like them.... Not a girl who did one scene for brazzers, or one of those other sites like that.
There are literally thousand of girls who've sucked a dick on camera and they can't all be "stars.!" The criteria suggested above does set the bar kinda high. How about been the primary picture on at least 5 DVD covers?
5 DVD covers now that is a low number. I say she has to be on 25 DVD Covers and all by her lonesome. I see so many DVD covers with so many ladies on the cover that it gets redundant. In addition, the lady should have her own hardcore website which serves as a medium for her fans.
There are several thousands performers, there are hundreds of very good performers, they are less than hundreds of super performers, and they are few porn stars. The difference between performer and porn star is crucial... For getting from performer to porn star there is a long way, and its marked by box covers, popularity on the net, accomplishments in the various industry gathering, magazine exposition, critical assessment by the industry experts, contract achievement, shooting with the big companies, and tons of stuff in between. BM
TLC has a good eye for beauty... and knows what people want. I trust Adonia's view on what makes a porn star, and agree with it wholeheartedly.
Even in mainstream Hollywood, there's a difference between being an "actress" and being a "star". For example, how many people here know the name "Piper Perabo"? She's a hot, young actress who, for many years was a total nobody in Hollywood. She's first attaining notice now with the recent hit "Covert Affairs". But, compare that to a name like "Jennifer Aniston". Everyone knows who she is.
There's a huge difference between being a performer, or an actor/actress, and being a star. Name recognition is one of the differences.
Another, that Adonia didn't mention, is the length of a line for autographs at conventions.
