I was quoted $1150 per scene in Montreal

A well known PS gave me a great idea about starting my own porn production company..I know somebody mentioned it a couple of weeks ago but now it has me thinking..

1) I can pick any porn lady without the hassle of talking them into doing a private

2)It would be much cheaper ($500-$900 per scene) and there is no clock watching..Also I can tell the ladies it would be cash..

3) Got a camera guy who quoted me $75/hr

4) I can use a hotel room for filming

5) I can keep all the film

6) I would be starring in all my movies..

The well known porn lady called around for me and I even got a call from a well known talent agency and they just told me to pick any lady! Now all I need is a name maybe "Ocean's 2"? or "Danny Ocean Productions"?

Am I missing something? Because I have seen so many well known ladies that credibility should not be a problem..Even the talent agent was surprised of her ladies I already known..

Danny

The way the economy for porn is today, I don't see why not.

You will need a fast computer with a good film editing program.

Instead of getting in the habit of paying a camera man, buy some $10 telescoping tripods and some 7.2 pixel Sony cameras on Amazon for $110 a piece.  And lots of mirrors.  You will have tons of angles and shots to splice from.

Then, get help setting up a reality website after you have 100 hours of content and tell your story.  We are all voyeurs.  Keep the monthly fee low, say $5, so we can drop in any time.

I thought about doing that also but I can't do that and non-porn films so the porn had to go :-)

Danny,

I think it was my suggestion.  If you ever release a vid, please give me credit for the idea! Or better yet let me be on set as an extra!

Cheers,
Frogger

LOL and yes it was your suggestion and you got me thinking!

Will keep you posted!

You did miss a few things:
1. These will be legitimate business expenses so you may be able to write them off at tax time. Talk to your accountant for a definitive answer.
2. Since you will be creating jobs, you may be able to get an SBA loan to start your company.
3. If you decide to export your films, the Commerce Department may help you line up foreign customers.

I think it's your patriotic duty to do this to help your country out of the worst recession since the Great Depression!

OK, here is some free advice on establishing your brand:

1. It's tacky and ego-driven to go with a fully-eponymous brand (i.e., a reiteration of your name).  Don't be Trump.  People don't realize how much contempt and scorn they incur when they just blow their own horn without any thought to the personality of their brand.

2. You can use your name (if you must), but combine it with a contextual set of words or a phrase which has meaning with respect to your business.  If it's clever or classic, bonus points.

3. Examples / thought-starters for a porn production company owned by (and featuring) Danny Ocean:

- Ocean Motion Pictures (which rolls off the tongue, has double-meaning, and allows you to develop some interesting brand imagery);

- Deep Blue Productions or Deep Blue Video (which evokes a classic theme and has a double meaning due to the sexual connotation of both the word "deep" and the word "blue."  There is also a light and sensual relationship between your name and the name of the production company without the thudding and plodding reiteration of your name.  This approach also gives you an obvious and rich color palette to work with in terms of your branding);

- Naughtical Productions or Naughtical Video (this is a little clumsy, but it's a whimsical double-play on "nautical" and "naughty," which is the linguistic crossover point between the ocean theme and the porn theme).

Just some thought-starters for you.

A lot of guys do this, and it isn't as easy as it seems, there is a lot of things to consider to run a legitmate porn business. If I may say, Fast Eddie can fill you in on most of these. He's very good at explaining the details.

A legitimate porn business isn't all it's cracked up to be, but I didn't see the part where it was going to be legit; only that it was a workaround for getting access to girls for less money, and keeping a souvenir of the event.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I could see where this could make sense.

One quick piece of advice:

It's easy to use "Danny Ocean" on this website, but if you used "Danny Ocean Productions" or "Ocean's 2" you would find yourself sued in about 5 seconds and in very hot water, as you would be liable for their attorney's fees.

I had a friend that represented BMW, and they sued a line of porn films using "BMW" (for "Big Mexican Women") in their title.  Another friend's company used a reference to a fictional character in a product line.  The resulting lawsuit put his otherwise healthy company into bankruptcy.

As a side note, I wondered years ago about setting up a "studio" to "film" hobbyists with providers (not main stream PS; just providers) -- the tape would be held in a vault, destroyed or given to the hobbyist with a strict non-distribution/confidentiality clause.  The hobbyist says what he's looking for (i.e., MILF, hispanic, asian, redhead -- much like the search engine on TER -- then the "studio" finds options for his "co-stars").  It always seemed to me like a way to basically create a legal brothel.  My concern was that LE would come after you once they realized that none of your films were being released or distributed to the public.  Now I'm thinking out loud, I guess you could post solo vids of the girls on the Net....hmmmm.....now I'm gonna have to look into this.....

Luv2Phuket,

I believe you are right about LE stepping in.  Danny Ocean's idea is great but it'd be a clear case of "misrepresentation" and is legally considered fraud.

Although now days it may not be as big an inpediment as it once was, but the big agencies, who are licensed and bonded, usually need to see that you're for real.  They'll ask for a link to your website or references from other talent agencies you've used.

I know that at one time, L.A. Direct Models wouldn't send their girl on a P.O.V. shoot for a first time producer even if he had creds.  There had to be a seperate male actor and cameraman.  These agencies aren't dummies... they know that a lot of guys would just buy a cheap camera anc call them up to book girls.

As I said, they may turn a blind eye to that in today's economic climate, but I'm betting the agencies like LA Direct, Goldstar Modeling, A-List talent and others in their class may want some verificatio that you are a real producer.

That's an excellent point, Eddie.
I'm not an expert, but I would guess that failure to check could end up landing the agencies in hot water for pandering.

And again I have been fortunate to see a lot of porn girls and/or run into them at social events..I looked into about 5 talent agencies (including the ones you mentioned) and noticed that I have seen about 3 to 4 girls on each site..So when I call them I can use those girls as references..

In fact the lady I was talking too yesterday called her agent and the agency called me and said "Since you know so and so and we will work with you".

Many if not most of the agencies know that a lot of their girls escort... So if you drop so-and-so's name and they take the trouble to ask, she might just tell them "Yeah, he's a client of mine".

It worked with the one agency; doesn't mean it will work with all of them.

Also, when the girl shows up, DON'T have a cheap camcorder... dead give-a-way my friend!  Girls DO walk off of porn sets; and if she's not already escorting in these economic times that probably means she's got some kind of prejudice about it, so she's likely to walk out on you if she doesn't think you're legit.

And finally, if you're hiring talent from these agencies they're eventually going to wonder why you don't have a website.

Next, make sure you have the proper legal forms for her to sign, and make sure that she shows you two types of government I.D., one of which must be a photo-I.D.

Also, you're going to have to verify her AIM test, and these days it's done on-line, so make sure you have a computer with you and internet access where you're shooting.

I understand that you really don't need paperwork since you're not actually going to be distributing the videos, and you might not care about a valid AIM screening (although you're nuts if you don't).  But you have to present at least the illusion of professionalism or you're going to be sending up red flags.

These agencies have black-lists, so if just ONE porn chick gets wind of the fact that you're scamming them, you could have your access barred to all agencies.

Just playing the Devil's Advocate here... Understand that there are pitfalls to be avoided.

Only thing I noticed missing was AIM tests.

I hate to rain on your parade. This type of guy is what is commenly refreed to as MAN WITH CAM.
I only work for legit  known companies. Unlike the myth that all of us performers are broke and NEED cash.
It is only a few . The ones who usually spend as much as they earn.
As many of us. myself included . Take our industry seriously. I too Have my own company as well as many other performers. It is a biz. So yes iax id fed 2257 AIM test .
W-9 ,10099, and web cost are just the surface behind what you see on on the surface as a fan.
Itis not that easy to get a fan base....
If you have a day job. Then double the effort into the porn biz. Start attending the Cybernet expos and see...Just how complicated it is.
For what a cheaper date with a porn chick???
More headaches then you think. Ask any producer...
Then girls will show up late  or cancel that morning....
Welcome to the drama of Porn...
But good luck with your plan...

And you are right porn ladies walk off the set as well as producers too..A porn lady told me yesterday that a producer kicked her friend off the set because he wanted 'shaved' ladies..He yelled "I specifically told your agent that I only wanted shaved pussies" and than he kicked her off..

By the way are you going to LA Ertica this year?

D

I agree with Summersizzle.  If you want a great film/video do it like a regular film studio (NBC).

It is the same except models dont have clothes on.  Some HD cameras are 7G's.  I would go into a studio that doesnt have good equipment and people that know how to use it well and treat it like a real business.

I was do studio work for girls for several years and want to try filming.  But you really need to be in the Florida area or LA where the talent is,  Where you might be able to get a quick replacement when your model doesnt show.

The only thing pizzes me off more, is a model that flakes on a shoot, because she chipped a nail, didnt sleep the night before cause of partying...blah..blah..blah.

I was quoted $1150 per scene in Montreal

I was quoted 1150 canadian to shoot a scene for a girl who's escorting rate is 450. If you can do it in an hour, you'd be better off just getting her for a private.

Another thing - if you hire a girl to shoot a scene, chances are, she's going to be in it just to do your scene, not providing you with lifetime experience like escorts do....
