Porn Stars

I think the moderators first duty is to...

One of the reasons TER asked Sly and myself to moderate this board is because it had degenerated into nothing but repetitive ISOs and flame wars.

The original intention for the PSE forum was to exchange useful information about pornstars and to have FUN.

One of the first things Sly and I discussed was our intent to eliminate the petty crap that was going on... the cheap shots, petty grudges and flame wars that are of no interest or value here.

Hopefully most of you have noticed a change, but apparently some of you haven't "gotten it" yet.  There's a STACK of pending messages waiting for approval that are never going to see the light of day.

If you have a problem with a fellow member here and feel compelled to tell him about it, do it through PM or email.  You're wasting you time and ours by trying to post it, since it will never make the board.

So before taking the time to write a message, remember the guidelines posted at the top of the forum... "This is a moderated forum in which flames and messages outside the forum topic will be deleted. Please do not post messages that are simply mean, or meant to cause trouble for trouble's sake."  If your message falls within that definition, don't bother writing it.

A new thread is started,
Then fasteddie responds,
Then sly responds,
Then jldick responds.

Of course sometimes the pecking order is different - this board has turned into a dear abby column with 3 abby's.

Although it seems to me that if someone uncovers  incontrovertible proof that someone posting messages here as a PSE may not in fact be that PSE, I should be able to point it out.

The problem is that your incontrovertible proof isn't... you just think it is.  Hasn't it occured to you that moderators might know who is posting a message regardless of what alias they're using?  And what someone is doing on someone's yahoo group has nothing to do with TER... take it up with them over there.

...it is a little odd that the most active posters are the moderators and their sparing chum.

Perhaps the best idea of a moderator is to stay quiet, objective, dispassionate and to interject to help on occasion. Perhaps they have another idea on this board.

I don't think the board was anywhere near as bad as has recently been portrayed. It was not that satisfying but the current solution is not better.

Egos are fine but not at the top.

I think you're being a bit unfair. The moderator position is an unpaid volunteer position. I don't want to speak for Ed, so I'll only speak for myself. I'm just a hobbyist like the rest of you. Just because I'm now mod shouldn't mean that I should not post messages as I always have. That wouldn't be any fun for me. I don't think I'm posting any more than I used to before I was mod, except perhaps for some of the instructional/administrative stuff (like posting links/pics with ISO's).

One of the reasons that TER selected me to co-moderate this board is because I was one of the few guys who consistently posted useful messages, consistently was willing to help others with their questions, and consistently posted reviews of my encounters with PSE's and other providers. Why would I change that formula now that I'm mod???

Well, that's YOUR idea of what a moderator should be.  TER's idea, and the reason they asked Sly and myself to moderate this board, is that a moderator should...

1. Generate interest and encourage thoughtful posts and the exchange of ideas regarding this hobby, and by doing so get people more actively involved.

2. If we can, answer questions that are asked.

3. Keep things civil and eliminate the petty shit.

Speaking for myself, that's primarily what my posting has been about.  Offering polls and such to stimulate participation and offer members (and PSEs) some insight as to how their fellow members approach the hobby; answer questions regarding a girl's availability or my experience regarding her performance, and keep the flame wars and cheap shots at a minimum (that part goes on in the background through approving or not approving posts).

If you take the time to read my posts, that's pretty much what I've done... other than that, I occasionally interject a comment to a thread that interests me... not as the moderator but as a hobbyist.  Just because I'm the moderator doesn't mean I can't participate in the general discussion that goes on here.

Ego doesn't really enter into it.  I don't brag about my "conquests", I'm not like the original moderator of this board who ruled with an iron fist and refused to approve any post that didn't agree with him - that your post was approved is proof of that.

The fact that Sly and myself together have probably more knowledge of which PSE is or isn't available than 99% of the members here means that we end up replying to a LOT of posts.  But that's a big part of our "job" here.  It has nothing to do with ego.

You want Ego?  You want bragging?  OK... The fact is that I haven't used an agency in over four years... I don't need to read the reviews on TER (Staff, please forgive me - lol).  If I'm interested in a girl - PSE, Playmate, Pet, whatever, I can get her phone number/email easily. I DON'T NEED TER OR ANY OTHER FORUM AT ALL.  I'm not paid or compensated for this in any way.  I do it because when I was a newbie, senior hobbyists here and on the "other" major board were kind and generous and helped me achieve some of my fantasies, so this is my way of "paying it forward"... and while I can't speak for Sly, I can say that I believe that his motivations are pretty much the same as mine.

So if you're not happy with the amount of posts Sly and I make, beat us to the punch and answer the questions posed so we don't have to.

...of a moderators role. Do it in your own style in conjuction with TER. It's of no importance to me and virtually nobody else I'd bet. Moderate away to your heart's content.

...I'm sure nobody would want a return to that sort of stifling influence.

As I said above in the reply to Sly, you have your idea of a moderators function and I have mine. The only view that matters is that of the site ownership.

We are not allowed to mention other sites here but there is another hobby site that I know well. The owner actually posts under another handle for his hobby contributions and under the well known "boss" handle for his moderation and admin posts etc...
That works for me. Just another way of doing things.

Well, that's not a bad suggestion... Certainly Sly and I have other aliases that we could post under for anything other than moderation related posts, but (and maybe this is the ego you're talking about - lol), don't you think that using our real handles lends more credibility and so more value for the hobbyists to the posts?

I'm serious about this question and interested in your reply.

...appear to be totally impartial. Back slapping PSE's you've enjoyed or agencies that you have used, would appear to contradict that edict when the moderating handle is used.

Review and post under one handle. Be de facto invisible and above it all under the moderating handle.

That is the model I prefer. But not the only model of course.

I agree with you, Catatonic.  Moderators should moderate and not promote.  Course as a newbie, I will sit back and see how it goes.

I think Sly and Company are doing a geat job. Informative and friendly even to us newbs.  They also maintain constant flow with the various posts, meaning they are willing to comment on wide set of topics relating to the boards.  If anyone has an issue about their reviews and them being mods, just take into consideration while deciding if review is bs or not.(I doubt it)

As always happy snorkling..:)
