I was in college in the 70’s. The guys next door to me had tons of porn film reels and showed them in their room to crowds of people just about equally split between men and women. The films had noObviously the women performers weren’t shaven and some were quite hairy lol. As I recall, facials were unusual. Also, anal was very unusual; a real niche film. The films had much more plot and dialogue than most of today’s films.
Porn producers these days seem to have forgotten that these women have pussies, I am cool with seeing girls get fucked in the ass but I do like to see her pussy get banged too, you see movies now where they don't even bother..lol
I was a freshman in 1972. Our Resident Assistant got some porn, set up a reel projector (that’s right, a reel projector) in the rec room and invited the whole dorm. Guys only dorm in those days. Can you imagine if some one did that today. Then again could you imagine a place where openly smoking pot was basically legal. Different world.
I talked to porn provider told me major internet porn co. release holds it value for about a day after than it’s “uploaded” to all these 3rd party sites becomes free content. Unstoppable. Told me actually money made at back end by advertisement.
Frankly I don’t miss old days A list girls were unapproachable when they toured the gentleman clubs up to around 2005. Internet changed it. Wish I could have met Nina in her prime.
I fucked Nina in the 80's and 90's. . Those were some of the best sexual experiences of my 20's and 30's.... . If only she had actually been in my bedroom with me during those times........ (sigh). :p . I met her in the early 2000's once at an Omaha strip club while she was feature dancing. She was charming and sexy as hell. I also saw her at the 2017 AVN in Las Vegas, Still gives me insta-wood. And she is still charming and sexy as hell.
The Golden Age of Porn; The Golden Age of Plotted Porn. Not mentioned in the article was that many of the actors back then actually had formal acting training and experience ... but were out of work. So they took on work in porn, often starting in NYC. . Also not mentioned: Sharon Mitchell had some exceptional roles. Jamie Gillis, a trained actor, played some psycho-crazy roles ... except that it turns out that psycho-crazy was close to reality for him. Annette Haven was a superstar of sorts but never did a money shot on film. Shot on film, production values were much higher then than they are now: locations, sets, lighting, scenery, costumes (e.g., historical period pieces). (Today, it looks like every scene is shot in one of a handful of multi-million dollar rent-a-mansions with pools, luxurious rooms and furniture but wobbly handheld video cameras or head mounted cameras.)
I think porn's expansion into the many niches (so to speak) has positives and negatives. The huge variety of categories kind of keeps it fresh for a consumer like me. If I get bored with Italian features from the 90's, I switch over to lesbian for a while, then I move on to something else.
On the other hand, a few of the niches seem to be monsters, eating up the industry. The whole "faux-cest" genre is really tiresome. Step-sister, step-brother, step-mother, and on and on. I get that performers are younger, but why do the milfs get subsumed into it? One of the things I like about classic porn is it depicts two grown-ups having sex. It's either romantic or filthy, depending on the setting or the script, but it's grown-ups involved. That's the kind of sex I tend to have and it's the kind of sex I want to watch. I'm not really interested in step-siblings manipulating each other into bed. Fortunately, there are a few people still making that kind of porn, but you literally have to work to find it. Maybe it's a phase.
Porn was more of a LE target back in the day so they had to include "redeeming social value" such as plot lines in porn movies to reduce obscenity busts. After Miller v. California (1973) and Jenkins v. Georgia (1974) "community standards" evolved enough that successful prosecutions (with appellate review) became far less likely for most porn.
By virtue of the vast ocean of Internet porn, one could easily offer that as evidence of real community standards.
While they have too many close up shots the scenes are edited so much better and you truly had real STARS. Also during that period the Ladies would go on a personal appearance and dance tours, usually in theatres in cities such as SAN Francisco , Chicago and New York. Usually you can really get up close and talk with them besides taking Polaroids. At a place like Show World in NYC I met Annette Haven, Leslie Bovee, Sharon Mitchell, Kandi Barbour, Serena, Cheri Taylor and many more. What I didn't know until much later is that some of these girls in Porn did "Provide" but you had to know someone in the industry to get an introduction. Some years later I met a prolific porn Actor from the 80s who did handle introductions and met some well known Ladies of that era, wow what memories.
