Unless you live in LA, or in some relatively rare cases Miami, you are likely going to be flying a PS in to see you. Many/most PSs are unreliable so an agency does increase the cost, but also provides "flaking out" insurance.
(1) Isn't Miami Companions an agency, just one with apparently lower rates than BM? and
(2) There are girls out there that guys want to see that only work through agencies or at least only do so when meeting a guy for the first time. So, if there is a particular girl you want to see and the only way you can see her it to use a particular agency, what do you do?

As my relatives were fond of saying - only the goy buy retail. There is no rational basis for rates. You can join Humaniplex and see Kinzie Kenner, who may be the hotest PS around, for a fraction of the cost of seeing an ancient PS like Keisha or Taylor Wane. Go figure!
I prefer to stay with my agency. They can vet the clients out for me, deal with the advertising, and provide some reassurance of safety. I've heard nightmare stories of some agencies doing none of the above, but the girls I work with are professional and fantastic. They're just looking out for everyone's fun and safety.
As a test I posted an indy VIP ad. I spent too much time dealing with crud for it to even be worth it. Next month I won't even bother, I have a fairly busy professional life and much prefer them to do the legwork.
On another note, this may be because I am with what I can gather is an exceptionally good agency- but I know that the girls at the office have received feedback that is nowhere to be found on the web. They can point clients toward me who may be leery of the fact I only have a couple reviews.
And no, there was never that much of a spread with my agency rate and indy rate I had posted. They actually were comparable. Something like that just hammers home the fact that there are good agencies and there are bad ones.
I saw another post today on TER saying her rate was $500. Same thing happened last week when I checked rates with 2 agencies. $1700 or $1200. Talk about competitive pricing.
