US officials brace for decisions in CIA leak case

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The federal prosecutor investigating who leaked the identity of a CIA operative is expected to signal within days whether he intends to bring indictments in the case, legal sources close to the investigation said on Wednesday.

As a first step, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was expected to notify officials by letter if they have become targets, said the lawyers, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Fitzgerald could announce plea agreements, bring indictments, or conclude that no crime was committed. By the end of this month he is expected to wrap up his nearly two-year-old investigation into who leaked CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity.

The inquiry has ensnared President George W. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, and Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby. The White House had long maintained that Rove and Libby had nothing to do with the leak but reporters have since named them as sources.

another examply of what would have been.  If President Clinton would have been Impeached AND convicted AND if Gore would have won in 2000, his pardon of the former POTUS would have been automatic.......just like Ford/Nixon.  Before the flaming begins, Gore lost, Bush won.  Secondly, Clinton wasn't impeached because of an obvious petty indiscretion such as the blowjob(s), he was impeached because of LYING about it under oath.   Now you may go on and on about neither being true............

Yeah, there's the historical fact that Bush Jr was arrested and convicted for DUI, and then denied it.   I'm sure the lie was a youthful indiscretion - who knows if he's ever gonna grow up?

I'd much rather have a lying drunk for a Prez than a lying horndog.  Drunkeness is so much more productive and normal.  Besides, I've never known ANYBODY to lie about getting any on the side - just can't imagine it happening.

The fact that Dubya can't string a coherent thought together just shows how alert and intelligent he is.   Not to worry, he's just a figurehead to appeal to people who like that sort of image.
