But it is true that we are bogged down in Afghanistan. 92% of Afghans have never even heard of the 9/11 attacks and nearly that many have no idea why we are there. We certainly aren't winning hearts and minds.

About the only thing we have tangibly accomplished in Afghanistan is opening up trade routes for opium.

May I make a modest proposal?

At age 18, everybody takes an IQ test. Those who score at 130 or higher, are legal citizens with no felony record, and can pass a basic civics examination in ENGLISH get to vote.

Everybody else gets to live with their decisions.

That's only 2% of the population, but it would solve the problem of dumb voters.

Of course, remembering how, when I was a "teen democrat" activist, how I used to hand out cigarettes to homeless bums to entice their signature on a voter registration form and then give them some MD 20/20 as a reward for their vote after hauling them to the polls in a van; I suspect that the results of the less dumb population voting might not be what you would prefer.

If you know little bit of history, you will NWFP never wanted to be part of Pakistan. Afghanistan still claims parts of NWFP with Pashtun majority as theirs and the people living there believes they are Afghani. Besides, the so called Durant line between Afghanistan and Pakistan is created by the British Empire after fighting and losing war Afghanistan thirteen times. NWFP originally belonged to Afghanistan. Pakistan had zero control there for the last 63 years

Pakistan is mercenary state, if they really take on Taliban and rid of them, they loose $18 billion in US Tax payer money paid to them for transit rights, services provided and use of their territory for war against terrorism.

Sorry, but for whatever reason, in spite of the overwhelming desire of the people (across the political spectrum) to have had our troops out of that region YEARS ago ... the Oligarchs have decreed that our troops will be there for who knows what real and ineffable purpose.

They will come out as soon as the oligarchs decide they should be out, and not before.

And we will have a PERMANENT U.S. presence in Babylon as well.
