A lot of people think Biden will roll over Palin when they debate.  Palin is extremely intelligent and articulate.  But the attributes that she has that Biden lacks are candidness and credibility.  I watched clips of her being interviewed as governor.  She answered very directly without hedging.  She might not have given the most polished answers that were formed to appease the listener, but they rang truthfully. Biden on the other hand has a problem controlling his mouth and emotions.  As soon as he begins to stumble his natural reaction will be to make stupid statements and eventually attempt to bully Palin.  She will hold her own but at the end of the debate she will leave the impression of a very well informed, straight forward formidable candidate and a mother of five who stood up to a bully.  Biden on the other hand will be viewed as a school yard bully who gave evasive answers to direct questions and became frustrated with his opponents frankness, well thought out answers and her failure to cow tow to him. She will be the breath of fresh air that everyone is looking for and Biden will come across as a deeply entrenched member of the DC establishment that no one want.

I don’t believe she will win many cross over voters because most people vote their party in the general election.  What she will do is energize the Republican voters who might have stayed home because they weren’t thrilled with McCain.  If either party can get 70% of the registered voters in their party to the polls they will win the election.  Her effect on the ticket will be much like the same sex issue in the last election.  Karl Rove said he never attempted to convert Democrats to vote for Bush.  He knew if he could motivate enough Republicans to vote Bush would win the election.

I think you nailed Biden pretty well. He's smart and articulate, but smug as all get out. Until he gets tripped up, he should do quite well.

Palin is still an unknown. A staged interview is nothing like a debate. Maybe she did well in her gubernatorial election debate (if there was one) but I haven't seen anything surface. She surely has little experience in this arena, whereas Biden has gone through it a few times already in past primaries.

Then again, Quayle looking like a total doofus against Benson didn't hurt Bush I too much against Dukakis. But perhaps due to McCain's age, more focus than normal will fall on the VP candidates.

FYI-  She  defeated a sitting Republican incumbent before defeating her Democratic rival.  She ran as a reformer.

Is that somehow to imply there had to be a debate? Not every state has gubernatorial debates. If AK, does, then fine.

Biden won't know what happened.  Sarah is going to kick some Biden ass.

Biden's hemorrhoids will be in his stomach when she's done kicking his ass.

Of course, that's what I thought Jack Kemp would do to Algore and I rolled over and died and had to eat crow at work.

Night Stalker:

A very well thought out post! Very astute political perceptions.

While I understand that Palin is somewhat of a crap shoot for McCain, the positives seem to out weigh the negatives. Yes, she doesn't have much experience, but at least as much as OBama, who has never actually run anything except focus groups. His senate experiene can't account for much, since he has spent most of that time campaigning for president. Most of the presidential candidates have been governors, for a least some period.

It seems like Sarah has a big set of balls, or "ovaries" in this case. She is smart and will most likely be a quick understudy. A lifetime member of the N.R.A. too. Christ,I think I'm gonna have an orgasm here! LOL. I respect her for carrying a "Downes Syndrome Baby" to term, although I don't think I would have made that choice. I'm basically pro-choice, and an independant, but you can't achieve all your political agendas under one banner. Sometimes we have to make hard choices.

Sarah will definately stand up to Biden. The horse is on him, and he can't be seen or projected as a bully. Personally, I don't think she's going to play that "perception game". I think she's gonna go after him like a bulldog and chew his ass up! If McCain or his handlers don't like it, tough shit! They invited her to the prom, and she's gonna show off her goods!

Never thought I'd be heaping these accolades on a lady, but Sarah is kewl. Hillary who? LOL.

Of course their is that problem with her being investigated for abuse of power!  But thats nothing new for GOP politicians.

She's definitely an unknown for those of us outside Alaska.  She appears to be intelligent and capable, which are my first two requirements of a president or VP.  McCain is intelligent and capable as are Obama and Biden.

It is actually kind of fun because I think I can reasonably predict how Obama, McCain, and Biden will handle themselves in debates, but because I basically had never heard of Palin, she's a wild card.  This will either be entertaining or pathetic, but I don't think it will be anything in between.

I couldn't agree with you more! I want to see Palin and Biden head to head! Unless she allows herself to be leashed, and I can't see that happening with her. Once the spontanaity starts, all bets are off. This woman doesn't give a shit who she pisses off! She was invited to the prom at the last minute. Barely time to pick out a dress. She didn't offer to suck anybody's dick! Sarah Palin. Yeah! You go girl!
