Something like 98% of the black registered voters are Democrats. There are estimates that Obama will get about 98% of the black vote. Would it be considered racist if a celebrity made a commercial calling for all white people to vote for McCain because it is estimated that 98% of blacks will vote for Obama. If he said something like why should a white person vote for a black candidate when blacks are only about 10% of the general population? I know its ok for Oprah, Whoopie Goldberg and the like to be racist, but what about the whites? Could there be a double standard here? I would love to hear the lefties take on this one.
Oprah is biased and it is having a backlash there are boycotts organized against her since she will not let Palin be interviewed until after the election .
The election is about winning, huh? So if a white celebrity asked all white Americans to vote for McCain, I would call that celebrity a Republican.
Somehow I knew a lefty would avoid giving a straight answer and instead spout off some rhetoric. Can't you give a simple yes or no answer?
I'm not a lefty exactly, but if 98% of blacks vote for a candidate and the candidate does not win in the general election, I guarantee that will be called racist. The fact not enough non-blacks voted for their guy (or gal theorically speaking) will equal everyone else is racist.
Lets put it to the test in 54 days.
that blacks should vote for Obama because he is black. In fact, I have heard some of my strongly conservative black friends say that they WILL NOT vote for Obama... go figure...
mostly, I hear from white libs who tell me that I am racist only because I would consider NOT voting for obama... and they are usually white libs who went to ivy league schools, majored in poly sci, were not good enough for law school so they now work for either the local, state or federal government in a some what bureaucratic position, drive a Volvo, live in a 3 bedroom innercity gentrification section of the town, the women wear long flowery dresses and braid their hair (all of it).... The gents wear birkenstock sandals (with or without socks)... and their kids are wusses....
any questions.....
While my black conservative friends, drive hot sports cars, work in investment banking, smell good, have model beautiful wives, and their kids are black belts in Karate, and QB the HS football team....
what can I say.
Your white acquaintances OTOH sound like some of the whinier libs that hang around here. lol
"The gents wear birkenstock sandals. . . with socks"
This is quite common in Finland. . . at work. I see it all the time.
strictly because he is black, which is the case with many Obama voters, is every bit as racist as a white person voting against him because he is black, or voting for a white person just because he is white.
There are countless numbers of people who are supporting Obama because "it's time for a black president". If that isn't racist, I don't know what is.
Anyone with a bit of honesty in them would admit that Obama has only risen to prominence because of his color. Just the same as an honest person will admit that Palin was picked for her sex.
I am sure there are Democrats out there that will claim that Obama nomination was inspite of his color and not because of it. I am equally as sure there are Republicans that will claim that Palin was selected because of her "qualifications". They will both be equally full of shit, but what else is new?
No one is going to get into this discussion because it is no win situation. You always will be called a bigot and racist. When you behind the curtain, it is between you and the voting machine. So, why stir unnecessary arguments that is rational people do.
We kind of found water on Mars. All we have to figure out is how to sustain life on Mars, then we can rocket all lefties to their on planet where they belong.
On serious note, 98% voting for Obambi is what happened in the primaries so Obambi got the notion that he can take, VA, NC, GA and Missouri and he is trailing on all of them. Tip of the ice berg.
Indeed, when Obambi looses, the ugly head of racism will rise once again. His inexperience and thin resume would not have anything to do with his loss.
mostly based on national defense. If a person puts party or liberalism over national security then they are a Lefty in my book. Joe Liberman despite being a social liberal is strong on national defense so he's not a Lefty. Ditto for.............no one else.
When Bill Clinton wanted to send troops to the Balkans Republicans pissed, moaned, whined and when they were overruled shut up about it and voted in favor of everything they needed to be there. The rules used to state that politics ended at the shore line, but the Dems heaved that over the side.
My answer to the question is 90% of elected Dems are lefties, but down here on the street maybe 40%.
. . . curious, in that it would include Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Abramoff, DeLay, and others, all of whom notoriously put the "permanent majority" ambitions of the Republican party ahead of genuine national security. Bad company indeed!
GaGambler,"There are countless numbers of people who are supporting Obama because "it's time for a black president". If that isn't racist, I don't know what is."
Just the same as an honest person will admit that Palin was picked for her sex.
I don't think many Blacks are voting for Obama just because he is Black..Blacks consistently vote Democrat..I will believe there is a indication of Blacks voting for Obama just because he is black when people like Michelle Malkin start supporting him..
the people who are voting for Obama just because he is Black are the feel good crowd of Naive young crackers in College, and the Media trying to exhale some of their deep felt guilt .and their friends
I have to disagree with you, to an extent.
Blacks are almost all dems, that is true.
I also think that blacks will vote for him because he is black. Obama will get his fair share of black votes from republican blacks, and independent black voters also, just because he is black.
Don't fool yourself Quad, because you can't fool us either.
I'm do not consider myself a lib., but I believe people tend to vote for the candidate they most identify with, or said in another way, they feel to be most like them. Most would call that human or even animal nature. Or, the natural order of things. But, even in that order this can be called discrimination, which is the first higher level cognitive process we develope (telling the difference between things), before we learn the next task, integration (putting together dis-similar things to making something altogether different).
Racism is different in that, as my American Heritage Dictionary says, it is: "1a. An emphasis on race or racial considerations, as in determining policy or interpreting events. b. Policy or practice based on racial considerations." Hence, your hypothetical celebrity, since s/he is encouraging a practice or policy based solely on race, would be seen, by many, as a racist.
If someone votes for, or against, someone solely based on the color of their skin, then I would say yes, that's racist.
I think the far left and the far right are just about there now.
The truth is Blacks vote predominately DEMOCRAT when a White dude is running for President..If the Republicans could get 25% of the Black vote in any Pres. election they would easily win*..In the 2000 election 94% of Black women voted
democrat...
*based on past patterns
if they were running against Hillary? Probably the same percentage that will vote for McCain. Why do 95% of Hollywood vote for Democrats. Why do 90% of Jews vote for Democrats. Why do 90% of union members vote for Democrats. Its been the same demographics for I don't know how long.
But would not vote for Rice. Powell is an accomplished leader. In the case of Rice it is questionable.
It is all about character and leadership as far as I am concerned. NOT COLOR OF THEIR SKIN.
Obama's accomplishments are what? Leadership on what and where?
Reasons me not voting for Obambi.
I would agree with that statement, 100%
Powell would have my vote over Obama, and even over McCain. It is all in the substance, for which Obama has none.
but I along with Kerrakles would not vote for Condie. She is smart and brings many things to the table in a subordinate role, but I don't believe that she is POTUS material.
Powell is a no brainer. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
now why would you suppose that to be the case?
Voting is more about politics than race. Democrats make a huge effort to organize blacks and republicans don't.
