The lead-in from the article . . .
-
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump said Monday that the GOP should nationalize elections, a suggestion that would mean overriding power that states are granted in the U.S. Constitution.
-
Trump made the comments while appearing on a podcast with Dan Bongino, the former deputy director of the FBI, according to NBC News. The president again was making claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
-
“The Republicans should say, ‘We want to take over. We should take over the voting in at least — many, 15 places.’ The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting,” Trump said.
-
According to the Washington Post, the Constitution says each state determines the “Times, Places and Manner” of holding elections. The president has no role in setting elections, The Post reports.

According to the NY Times:
"Mr. Trump’s remarkable call for a political party to seize the mechanisms of voting follows a string of moves from his administration to try to exert more control over American elections,  as he and his allies continue to make false claims about his 2020 defeat.

Last week, F.B.I. agents seized ballots and other voting records from the 2020 election from an election center in Fulton County, Ga., where his allies have for years pursued false claims of election fraud. The New York Times reported on Monday that Mr. Trump had spoken on the phone to the F.B.I. agents involved in the Fulton County raid, praising and thanking them.

The Justice Department, which has been newly politicized under Mr. Trump, is demanding that numerous states, including Minnesota, turn over their full voter rolls as the Trump administration tries to build a national voter file.

In March, Mr. Trump signed an executive order that tried to make significant changes to the electoral process, including requiring documentary proof of citizenship and demanding that all mail ballots be received by the time polls close on Election Day. But that effort has largely been rebuffed by courts.

On social media, Mr. Trump has pushed for even more drastic changes. In August, he wrote that he wanted to end the use of mail-in ballots and potentially the use of voting machines....
“If Republicans don’t get them out, you will never win another election as a Republican,” he said, referring to undocumented immigrants. “It’s crazy how you can get these people to vote. If we don’t get them out, look, Republicans will never win another election.”
So if you can't win legitimately, change the rules of the game. And as the polls look worse and worse for Republicans, who knows what else Trump will try as we get closer and closer to the mid-term elections?

...when he's not shitting in his diaper.  Article 1, Section 4, Clause 1 states:
"The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof..."

In Trump's first term he had Cabinet members and staff who would tell him: "Mr. President, you can't do that; it's unconstitutional."
Now Trump has surrounded himself only with loyalists.  A "loyalist" is a "yes man," a sycophant, a coCKSucker.
The fucking moron has surrounded himself with fucking morons.

Trump knows less about the Constitution than he does about the Declaration of Independence:
Terry Moran: "What does the Declaration of Independence mean to you?"
Trump: "Well, it means exactly what it says.  It's a declaration, it's a declaration of unity and love and respect.  And it means a lot.  It's something very special to our country."

He can say this shit if he wants..... but it will never happen and conservatives will fight him on it.   He is also talking out of his ass.

It is in the constitution, needs 2/3 votes and would need states to go along with it.    So yep would need lots of things he can't get to even become a reality.

BUT..... dem controlled cities are not helping the cause.   They are rejecting to help with federal officers, federal agencies, etc.   They are fighting tooth and nail.   WHEN they are obligated to hand over info and things when it has to do with federal issues.   Such as funding they get from the FED, access to voter rolls when it comes to getting federal funds to the individuals, etc.    Yes some of this is getting fought in courts and have been ruled on... .but are also going to the supreme court.

But again.... this federal election crap is just Trump speaking out of his ass.    WHAT he should do is make it a national holiday.   This way it gives nobody excuses for not voting, helping with elections, etc.

and rather than using that link which some may not be able to open, here's his article that pretty much says the same thing.  Yeah, it's also from a website that even I take with a grain of salt but that doesn't change the message.

Look where the ball lands is the whole point.

That is a great analogy.

For those of you who won't open the link.... Here it is:

"Finally, to Trump's many detractors, look at it this way: Years ago, I watched two professional golfers being interviewed on the Golf Channel. The interviewer asked, "What makes a good golfer?"

One golfer said, "I look at how he grips the club; where he places his feet, how he positions his shoulders; if he's right-handed, whether he keeps his left arm locked as he swings; if he keeps his eyes squarely on the ball as he swings so he doesn't hook or shank; the movement of his hips; whether he swings smoothly without a hitch …" He proceeded to give several more precise mechanical details.

The other golfer said, "I look where the ball lands."

When it comes to Trump, detractors look at his swing: the insults, the bragging, the swagger, the ego, his tweets, his cockiness, his demeanor, his flippancy and his various opinions on all manner of things that really don't much matter. As the Trump-supporting Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., puts it, Trump does not have an "unexpressed thought."

Supporters look where the ball lands: the economy; borders; eliminating DEI; SCOTUS judges; pro-life; foreign policy; school choice; combating urban crime; focused deportations; opposing biological men competing against biological women in sports, etc. And it looks like the man is having fun. It's infectious. In the final analysis, isn't this all that really matters? The rest of it is, pardon the expression, white noise."

Trump has fallen asleep at several cabinet meetings and Oval Office gatherings in the past month or so.
Have you drunk ALL the Kool Aid?

I don't know if he's having actual fun but he is doing what it appears he enjoys.  Making deals and talking to cameras.  I'd say he likely is.  The story so understand the difference in which the two pros discussed a golf swing with the wisest of the two saying he watches where the ball lands.

Kinda like ignoring that red dot you chase around every day.

Him falling asleep....  Media should be jumping all over it.  Since he was the one calling Biden "sleepy joe".    Turn about is fair play.

This should be a field day for comics, SNL, etc.

Are you 12?  The OP was about Trump wanting to "nationalize elections", you reply with some hyperventilation by the NYT...go figure!  bigpoopy attacks him and his cabinet, no surprise there.  Crsm tries to explain it's a both sides doing shit but states Trump is talking out of his ass (a couple times).

OK, most of the usual suspects have claimed their territory on the issue.

I am of the opinion that Trump wants something so he's going to reach further past the object and bring the discussion to the top of the newspaper and get the whole country wound up about it.  Hence, the story of ignore the swing but rather look at where the ball lands.  Maybe he just want voting limited to US CITIZENS and not illegal immigrants, the dead, Mickey Mouse et al...

You?  You ignore what may be the perfect analogy and choose to try and kick up dust about an 80 year old guy that works 12+ hours a day and closes his eyes for 10-15 seconds at a time while in photo ops.  When the Easter Bunny has to follow Trump around and lead him by the hand in his own back yard at his own event....get back to us.

How do you feel about when FDR, Obama and Biden wiped their asses with the Constitution?

About the same as when Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, Truman, Nixon and Reagan wiped their asses with the Constitution. It's just that Trump does it every day.

Again.... missing what Trump is actually pushing.   VOTER ID.   Which for the past 4 years or so 75%+ of the nation agrees with it.     He is pushing for the SAVES Act to be passed.     Even minority groups are trending with over 75%.

The younger demographic have mostly abandoned linear television and gone to streaming. I personally can't stay awake that late, so I streaming the monologues the next day on YouTube. That said, I prompted Gemini AI about the youth factor on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s audience.
.
- - - Begin Gemini - - -
Specific, up-to-date, publicly available percentages defining the exact "young" demographic (e.g., 18-34 or 18-49) for Jimmy Kimmel's audience are not clearly defined in recent data. However, a 2025 report indicated that Kimmel's viewership experienced a significant 52% increase among younger adults in September 2025, suggesting a strong, recovering, or highly volatile engagement within that demographic.
.
Key Findings on Audience Trends:
.
Volatile Youth Viewership: As of September 2025, Jimmy Kimmel Live! showed a strong, 52% increase in younger adults compared to prior weeks, demonstrating that while late-night viewership is generally aging, the show can attract, or re-attract, a younger demographic.
.
Time Slot Leader: Despite industry-wide declines in late-night, Kimmel's increased numbers in late 2025 helped secure top rankings in the 11:35 p.m. slot for younger adults.
.
Context: General trends in late-night television show a steady, overall decline in younger audiences, but specific events or guest lineups can drive sharp, temporary spikes in younger viewers for Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
.
- - - End of Gemini AI
.
In comparison, Kimmel's YouTube channel has 22 million subscribers with some of his videos racking up millions of views. His most recent monologue [one day ago] racked up over 4.5 million views . . .
