Simply put, Fox News has reached the heights that it has thanks to all the attention brought to it by its so-called enemies.  You libs can't stop talking about Fox News.  If you ignored it, like we conservatives ignore MSNBC, Fox News' ratings would surely take a hit.

But, you're not smart enough to do that . . . .

The best bet is to get your news from different sources and from different political persuasions.

Every major network, website, newspaper, etc has a liberal or conservative bent.

Getting views from both sides before an opinion is fully formed seems to be the best avenue to take if one ever desires to get to the truth of any given issue.

"Getting views from both sides before an opinion is fully formed seems to be the best avenue to take if one ever desires to get to the truth of any given issue." That, and not feeling compelled to have an opinion based only on what was focused on during the latest news cycle regarding the issue.

how do you figure that Fox is “hurting” the Republican Party, much less “destroying” it as that silly  article asserts?

I’d say Fox helps the GOP by animating its base and we see this in election results. Fox also provides a safe haven where Republicans can give interviews without facing the obvious tough questions real journalists would ask. Remember all the times the opinion hosts  interviewed Governor Perry and accepted his claim that his indictment was a “political indictment”?  Sorry no Democrats involved. Or how the opinion hosts accepted Ted Cruz’s false statements about Obamacare when they asked about his attempt to shut down the government? Funny how Obamacare cost "millions of jobs" yet those unemployment numbers keep going down.

Or how about the way the opinion hosts accepted all the Republican talking heads who claimed that the five Gitmo detainees traded for Bergdahl would certainly return to the battlefield and kill Americans, or at least that the Taliban would start kidnapping Americans in huge numbers? (Where are those guys now, you ask? Still in Qatar where they have not hurt a soul. How many Americans were kidnapped? Um, zero as far as I know.  In short, they – and the Board righties who dogmatically adopted their position – were dead wrong. Turned out to be a pretty smart trade, since they were going to be released anyway. Saves a million a year per detainee and we got our guy back).

So Fox is neither “brainwashing” viewers, nor hurting the GOP. They certainly influence their audience – we can see that right here in the opinions of the Board righties. But the problem is not Fox but the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine without which Fox would not exist in its present form.  This is usually justified by saying that the proliferation of cable channels, in addition to broadcast channels, make the Fairness Doctrine obsolete.

But at some point Fox’s viewership numbers may get high enough that we need to take another look at this

In the overwhelming majority of the states, it is the state legislature with approval by the governor. I guess a few states have non-partisan commissions that do it but I think the legislature stills votes.

At least where partisan gerrymandering (at lot of gerrymandering favors incumbents of either party) is taking place, you have Republicans redrawing districts so as to benefit Republicans. So I don’t follow your reasoning at all – to the extent that gerrymandering tipped the balance in the midterm elections, that just shows that the GOP has not been “destroyed” by Fox but shows the opposite – the GOP remains extremely potent at the state and congressional levels.

As to your certainty that Fox viewers are “brainwashed,” I don’t agree with that at all.  That is kind of insulting to the righties on the Board who make a good faith, though usually erroneous, judgment on the issues. They may use Fox as a starting point, or to confirm their opinion, but they remain capable of making their own analysis. Well, some of them anyway. LOL

Get back to me on that.

To give you an idea, the major networks have about 35 million viewers at any given time and Fox has 3-4 million during OReilly so if anybody has a beef with the media, it's the Repubs.

It is funny though how much of a hardon libs have about Fox. I guess you would want ALL the networks to lean Left? Would that help Dem chances in the elections that you acknowledge that R's have dominated the past 6 years?

The Dems are ONE election loss from facing political oblivion and stupid OP's like this one gain traction with some libs here. I'll give you props for not being one of them.

He should know I don't know what to think each day until I listen to Rush. I'm simply useless until the afternoon.

It IS interesting though how he thinks the First Amendment has some sort of quantitative measurement assigned to it.

are libs whose policies never work and keep minorities down to enhance their power.  Barack has proven that.  Are any of his constituents better off as the result of his term or is THAT someone else's fault?

libs look down on minorites as people to be ruled, not governed.

but they pretend to care while, like children, they blame others for their failures.

it works for the uneducated and stupid.  again, Barack proved that.

libs/socialists/communists (kinda the same) are responsible for millions of bodies in smoking pits of those that disagree with them.

now, let's have QUALITY insults this time ;)

bigots!  ;)

You and I are Obama's constituents, not just black people, or even those who voted for him.  ;)

Don't know about you, but yes, I'm doing much better under Obama than I did under GW!  ;)

Regarding minorities and the poor, I'm certain that if Republican's and Democrats worked together, their plight would be lessened. It's typically the Republican's strategy to fight any program to help the poor and minorities, and if they fail, only appropriate enough money for programs to make certain they fail, so they can say 'I told you so!' So, enough with the tired and worn out line about Liberals not caring. Comparing at average politician to the average person, you're right the average person cares more about the poor and minorities than the average politician. Comparing Republican politicians to Democrat politicians, Democrats care more, and wish to do more.

How many people here, from either side of the aisle, do you really think cares that much about the truth before leaping to a conclusion based on their own political predispositions and or biases

most people are looking for evidence to support what they believe already!  ;)

But, as Dostoyevsky points out, the origins of such behavior begin with self-deception and self-delusion.

“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

I guess this means the degree to which we reduce our self-deceptions and self-delusions determine the degree to which we seek truth on it's own terms, whether from the inside, or from the outside.  ;)

and I certainly agree, it's one thing to lie to the world, it's quite another to lie to yourself.

Yes, we all have our own built in biases, even if some of them are learned and not innate.

Take this board for example, I am willing to bet you are ready to call bullshit on any link posted by the likes of nuguy or FollowMe without even opening them. That's a bias, but it's a learned bias, something you didn't start off believing, but after a couple of hundred posts, all right wing propaganda, that's just what you expect from those posters. The same holds true for all of us, if I see a link posted by the likes of FG or Laffy, I automatically assume it will be "more of the same" from those guys. So I suppose I am guilty of this as well

Grow-up - Obama only cares about Obama.  He is a tiny man in a big office.  Obama made it clear to me that I am his real enemy - he doesn't represent me.  He is only President to those that agree with him or the entitled takers (I need me an Obamaphone!).  The fools screw themselves - good.

Democrats say "waah", Republicans say "work".

Democrats make things worse and fool the stupid into thinking that they care
