You don't understand how federal funding and budgets work. If the Dems wanted to defund the military, there is absolutley NOTHING the Republicans NOR Bush could do. Budgets require periodic RE-AUTHORIZATION. The Dems have to take action to keep the funding going and it has to start in the House. The Senate cannot initiate any spending.

The idea behind cutting off funding would be that a sane CIC would read the writing on the wall and begin to pull the troops out. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of a sane CIC. I have no doubt that Bush would defy Congress and leave the troops in there and even let them get wiped out before he would accede to the wishes of Congress and the American public.

I know you are hyperventilating because you are desperate to tie this debacle your side created to the Democrats before you get wiped out in two years, but it is not going to work. My guess is that it will take impeachment to get the chimp to back down and the Dems will have to slowly apply the pressure so that it will be the Republicans themselves who will finally pull the trigger--just like they did with Nixon.

Go read your history for the Vietnam war. Defunding as it's called is exactly how it happened.
