Although we have seen violent messages here from the left, and they aren’t young.

The minority view, that violence can sometimes be justified, is larger among Democrats (15%) than among Republicans (6%); among those under 30 (14%) than among those 60 or older (5%); and among the very liberal (25%) than among the very conservative (10%). #mulawpoll[/quote.]

Exactly right.  It's a flawed, partisan conclusion to make. The entire poll was only 1,043 participants with a margin of error of 3.3%. I'm not sure how many participants were under age 30, or how many identified as Democrat vs Republican vs Independent.  It likely would take a very small number of participants to go from 6% to 15% so it's statistically insignificant. The good news is, of the entire poll universe, 89% said political violence is always unacceptable. I wish that percentage was even higher.

Some of the most highly rated and accurate polls run samples ~1K with an MOE of around ~3%.  The tired “the sample size is too small!” excuse is just a lazy way of avoiding an uncomfortable topic.

He also cites margin of error as an issue but ignores the fact that the 6% and 15% numbers fall outside the margin of error.
It likely would take a very small number of participants to go from 6% to 15%
The difference between 6% and 15% in a poll running 3.3% margin of error is not “insignificant”. In fact the 6-15 divide tells us that liberals are somewhere between 2 to 3 times more likely to support political violence than more reasonable conservatives are.

The people being called fascist are the ones who are acting like fascists like trump and others in his MAGA regime.  If you read the definition of fascism trump et al meets all the criteria for being fascists.

Wages of higher paying jobs have outpaced inflation, but that's not the case for the low to middle end of the pay spectrum. With the job market softening, inflation will affect more and more Americans.

He barely meets any. Fascism is a government where one leader or party has total control over the economy, the media, the courts and where people who disagree are jailed or murdered. Trump does NOT meet ANY of those criteria.
.
As much as I despise Trump, he was elected through the democratic process. (Thats right Republicans! Elections are legit!) We still have our democratic systems intact during his presidency. Courts have ruled against him, the people are free to criticize him as you and I do every single day, and the press pushes back and fact checks his every lie. That sounds like fascism to you???
.
Unlike Nazi Germany, Mussolini’s Italy or Hamas run Gaza, where opposition is brutally eliminated, the U.S. still continues to have its checks and balances, privately owned businesses, independent courts and free speech. I'm sorry Jazz but using the term “fascist” for Trump ignores all that and just makes us look unhinged by continuing to say it.

Actually he does, Robert. A textbook definition of fascism is an authoritarian, ultranationalist, political ideology defined by a dictatorial leader, centralized government, and forcible suppression of opposition. Key characteristics of fascism include: dictatorial rule, hyper-nationalism, use of scapegoats, suppression of opposition, rigid social hierarchy, intense militarism, and controlled economy. I think trump and MAGA meet both the definition and characteristics of fascism albeit in a nascent form. Consider where the country is right now with only 8 months of trump's emerging fascist regime, and imagine where we will be in 48 months as trump's MAGA fascism metastasizes.

You are predicting he will be a fascist so then, by implication at least, you are stating he is not one now, as of today. You are essentially agreeing with Hyp, is how I take your point.
.
There is also a massive problem when you use "textbook" definitions of highly complicated issues. What is the "use of scapegoats?" What is "rigid social hierarchy?" What is "intense militarism?" All those terms would have to be individually defined as they mean nothing by themselves.
.
Almost any president would be considered a fascist by those yardsticks. That's the problem with using textbook definitions. They are so vague, anyone can read into them anything they wish to make their point about any president they don't like.
.
Let's cut to the chase. Would you be in favor of removing Trump by ANY means necessary? If not then he isn't really a fascist or a dictator in your mind because violence would then be justified in overthrowing a dictator who robbed us of our constitutional rights. I don't see any serious constitutional scholar, right or left,  calling for rebellion, do you?

I think he is an amoral, unhinged, incompetent, criminal authoritarian and, yes, at best an emerging fascist. I could cite examples of how I think he meets both the textbook definition and characteristics of a fascist, but I am not trying to score debate points. Our democracy and our rights are under siege by trump and that attack will only get worse.  If you don't see the threat, I won't waste my time or yours trying to convince you otherwise. I believe vigorously opposing his agenda, protesting, pushing back, speaking out, exercising all our first amendment rights, educating the citizens, and winning at the ballot box are the appropriate actions against this threat.

I have said numerous times here he is evil. But words matter. When moderates and independents see us throw around words like Nazi or fascist, they lose their meaning AND they think we are grossly exaggerating. That’s not good for our side and it drives some of those people into his camp and it makes them trust us less.
.
Bill Maher made the point years ago when some on our side called Bush the younger a fascist. Where did that get us? So Trump comes along, a real threat to democracy, we break out the fascist playbook again and people yawn. They have been desensitized to the word.

So how about you list the Constitutional "rights" of AMERICANS that Trump has eliminated or wants to eliminate?  Your evasive response that "if you don't see the threat, I won't waste my time or yours trying to convince you . . . ." is typical of lefties who have no substantive response to the question about WHICH rights Trump is trying to take away from AMERICANS.   How about YOU go beyond the Lefty talking points and generalizations and tell us about these rights we're likely to lose under Trump's agenda and how you arrived at the conclusion that they are under siege, and every AMERICAN should be worried?

Trump's attacks on our rights include those on: freedom of speech,  birthright citizenship, due process for non-citizens, voting rights. He then, as CDL has already pointed out, produces a list of liberal grievances without any specifics. One example would be his claims about birthright citizenship. The fact of the matter is that not one citizen has lost their citizenship due to Trump’s proposal to modify the qualifications for birthright citizenship. No right is being trampled there. In fact it’s going through due process and the case is being argued in court. Hardly a situation evidencing “my God we are living in a dictatorship!!!!”  Silly Jazzy.

You still haven't proven what "rights" he has taken away.    You brought up birth right citizenship which was/is being talked about and challenged in court because of terms/definitions.   Which is debatable how it was written.  Even the last time it was brought up in court it some of the descent talked about how it could lose.   Which is the angle this admin is using now.

Now you saying he wants to be a dictator because he is using the National Guard.   He is protecting federal buildings and agents.   Which he can do this.... legally.     He is talking about the "insurrection act"..... now that is a scare tact I believe he is using right now.   But we will see how these court cases will go upon appeal.   Remember how they went the first go around in CA.   They said he couldn't use the Guard then they overturned it.   I see it happening again.    Remember he is protecting Federal Agents and Federal Buildings.    Which is his job.   Not the Governors of those states.   It is why they are not getting into trouble (yet) for not having police down helping.   They will get in trouble when they are not helping the citizens getting injured.

Now you say he is the only one that is a dictator..... or fits the definition of "fascist".... really.   going after political opponents..... Look what is being found out.... Obama, Hilary, Biden.    Controlling Media..... Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc all have admitted to censoring conservatives some at the direction of Biden administration members.   Wanting chaos.... BLM, ANTIFA, summer of love, etc.   Which political party was egging it on during Trump's first term... which party?    Which party wanted to go after or "unarm" a society and control movement......ie: take away guns, shut down businesses (Covid),  need to have vax passport, etc.   During Covid the left had many "fascist" policy idea's they wanted to push and go with.....they wanted government control.

Explain how it will be used for "Martial Law" and suspending elections..... seriously.

He is using this "threat" to protect federal officers and federal building.   He is making it so people can do their jobs and follow the law.   Protesters are breaking the law and local PD, Mayors, Governors are not helping and ignoring this.   Yes interfering with a federal officer is breaking the law.   Just like interfering with any police officer is breaking the law.

I also see this as more of a "threat" than anything if no local PD will help.    But for Trump to real "enact" these things need to go overboard.    Like deaths and destruction of more than what we have just seen.

BUT.......This is where Mayors and Governors need to tread lightly.   What I am getting at is during Floyd and even the recent LA riots there was "local" police presence: State, county and city.    What we are seeing in Portland and Chicago isn't any "local" help.   Well not much.   Look how Chicago PD was told to "stand down" with the car ramming.   Look how Portland PD ignored a female reporter who was beaten when she showed them the suspect.   This is where no local PD being around could bite them in the ass.   They need to have them around and help or keep things civil.   Which some nights it isn't.   Portland is having local PD show up every now and then which is showing a police presence so it will keep Trump from evoking this.   Chicago on the other hand needs to step it up.   Especially with the ramming and what came out that PD was told to stand down.

This act has been used or thought about being used multiple times.... during hurricanes, during 1991 LA Riots, Civil Right riots, Against the KKK, during labor conflicts, etc.

It is used when local PD is overwhelmed or when federal government thinks Local PD is in on something and not helping citizens or the Fed government.....ie: when it was used against the KKK.

So like I mentioned I believe it was a "threat" being used so that the Mayors think about it and send local PD to help out....even a little.   Especially what is coming out with some of the reporting.

"President Trump said on Wednesday that Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois and Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago should be jailed, escalating his campaign of retribution against those he sees as his political foes.

Both Mr. Pritzker and Mr. Johnson are Democrats who have opposed Mr. Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to the Chicago area and have criticized the aggressive way in which the Trump administration has carried out immigration raids. Mr. Johnson has signed an executive order to establish “ICE-free zones” in Chicago to prevent federal agents from staging operations.

“Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also!” Mr. Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.

The threat to jail Democratic officials who fight against his actions comes as the president has taken myriad steps to harm those who oppose him.He has pulled protective details from members of his first administration who face death threats from Iran. He has revoked or threatened to revoke the security clearances of President Biden, members of his administration and dozens of others. His administration has taken steps to target members of the media seen as unfriendly, taken the hatchet to entire agencies perceived as too liberal and fired or investigated government workers deemed disloyal.

Today, one of Mr. Trump’s highest-profile targets, the former F.B.I. director James Comey, will appear in court on charges filed against him by the Trump administration.

The threat also comes as Mr. Trump has increasingly sought to send in federal law enforcement and military forces in a show of force against protesters in American cities, including Portland, demonstrating against his aggressive immigration-enforcement campaign.

Today, the White House plans to hold a round table discussion on the administration's plans to target the loosely defined left-wing antifascist movement known as antifa. Mr. Trump has threatened “investigatory and prosecutorial action” against those who financially support antifa."
Remember when he told MAGA-ites, "I will be your retribution?" But he's no one's retribution but his own. And he's out of control.
How much more of this crap will you righties tolerate?

This shows how delusional you and others are.    Again he is protecting FEDERAL BUILDINGS and FEDERAL AGENTS.... which he has the right to do by law.   As long as that is where he stays and he does.... only protecting those agents.   He isn't sending in thousands of troops.   The media and Liberals are making it seem this way..... he isn't.    But I digress.

Now with the "arrest" talking points....

Trump is referencing the lack of helping with FED's when calling for help.....and now the "ICE FREE ZONES".

Which not helping ICE officers is actually LEGAL.   Sad but True.  State agencies don't have to help Federal agencies or law enforcement even when in need.   But like I mentioned above.... if they don't want him to use the "insurrection act"....which he can if "lawlessness" and threats to citizens, federal property, damage, deaths, etc start to happen more and more.....and local, state PD don't "help" and they look like they are aiding and abetting it.... he can invoke it.   Like they did against the KKK.... .when local and state agencies had ties to the KKK or sympathized with the KKK.

Now the "ICE FREE ZONES"..... this will be fought in court and while State agencies dont have to help.  There was a case they can't "create" laws or areas different from federal laws or enforcement with immigration.... happened in AZ in 2012.  Supreme Court Struck it down.

Now everyone bitching how Trump is withholding funds is "Illegal".... well it isn't.   He can do this too.   Just like presidents prior did this when people had drinking ages under 21, speed limits at a certain limit, etc.   They withheld funding for highways and other things until those states met the federal standard.

refusing to cooperate in keeping the citizens of Chicago safe and allowing the Federal Government to do their constitutional duty in that regard, the Dems will take another hit as a party.   Watch the approval polls dip even more.  Ordinary voters do not have security details and live in gated communities or fortified mansions like Pritzker does, and this disconnect on his part will reflect poorly on the Democrat Party as a whole.  Somebody should bitch-slap him and Johnson and tell them to work with the Feds to get crime out of their cities.

If Trump really wanted to keep "the citizens of Chicago safe" he'd send funds to hire more cops and send actual police to Chicago. Not National Guard who are not trained in most aspects of law enforcement.
But don't listen to me. Listen to this guy, who used to be a National Guard Major General.

First of all, I wonder if you even read the article you linked. Because NOWHERE did it say anything actually happened. It only says APOC "requested that Redneck Revolt be present." it does NOT say if they ever actually showed up.
Anyway, there was no gun-play at all. The only person killed was a left-wing protester who was run down by a right-wing nut. But in your world it's the lefties who are violent.
Please put down your Trumpian MAGA crack pipe.

And it ain't what you said. A NY Times/Sienna poll found:
"More than half of voters, 53 percent, think the process of deporting people has not been fair; 44 percent said it was mostly fair.

A similar share — 52 percent — disapprove of Mr. Trump’s handling of immigration; 46 percent approve. And 51 percent said his actions around immigration enforcement had gone too far."
So, yes, the margins are close. But they are NOT what you said they were.
Now waiting for CDL's retort: "Oh, it's just the left-wing NY Times." *Yawn*

WHAT YOU MISSED and what I posted was that they (a professor) talked about VIOLENCE IN POLITICAL ACTIVISM..... This professor is discussing the merits of violence in political activism.   A PROFESSOR..... teaching merit to violence.....back in 2018.     He is a part of a self proclaimed ANTIFACISM groups.   He is promoting violence or "merit" of political violence activism.

It had nothing to do with the Redneck Revolt on that day.  It was he (a professor) was at Harvard talking with faculty and students in 2018 talking about the "merit" of violence in political activism.    He was pushing/promoting VIOLENCE.

So you put down your crack pipe if you don't think the "left" isn't or hasn't been promoting violence the past years.

U do know that Chicago's police budget is $2B a year.

The issue like so many others is the soft on crime.   It is the revolving door of the justice system.   This is for all major cities in all states.

Now the last "talking point" that the media had was the raid done on the apartment complex.   Where city counsel people, state reps, and I think even the Mayor lied about.   Saying that the FBI, ICE, DEA went door to door and arrested or handcuffed a kid.....well social media had a picture of it.    None of that happened.

The agencies actually targeted VACANT apartments, had warrants or info on 6 gang members with records (targeted event), was a drug/money/human trafficking take down, etc.   They did in the sweep of the raid of vacant apartments get something like 37 or so people.   The local alderman said this was needed and was asked to be cleaned up but ignored by city officials for years.   The picture on social media of the kid handcuffed was from a dad (police officer) who saw his son running away from his mother went and handcuffed him as a joke.   The child was like 2 or 3.     So this example I am talking about is one like in MSP where it was a DEA/FBI drug/gang/etc where ICE helped out.   But local people go off not knowing all the facts.

This is where the NG will come into play to keep the citizens away from the actual law enforcement doing their jobs.   They will be crowd control.  They won't be going out of raids or arresting people.   They are their for crowd control.   You know the people blocking traffic, blocking the streets, throwing things at ICE officers, pushing ICE officers, etc.   The NG will be there to escort ICE officers, FBI/DEA, etc to and from area's after arrests or raids.  They will be there to do crowd control after raids.  Things like that.    But sure let the lies keep coming.    Look what they did in LA and DC.....it was crowd control around federal buildings and protecting Federal officers.   THAT WAS IT.

I never believe any polls.   reason why is how do they ask the questions or frame them.

handling immigration is such an open ended question.     That can be anywhere from policy to enforcement.

Actions around enforcement very vague.... This from court punishments, arresting them, ICE actions, etc.

Process of deportation,,, very vague..... again....from courts, picked up on street, self deport, etc.   Which aspect.

I would say the same for any polls that would say favorite pizza slices..... it is all how you ask the questions.

Consider this. Based on recent polling nearly 60% of Americans do not want federal troops in American cities. Many have suggested this is just performative. It is, but it's more than that. It's a show of strength and intimidation. It's a way trump hopes to get Americans complacent about seeing troops in the streets before he ramps up with active duty military. That's why there was that fucked-up meeting of Generals and Admirals in Virginia.  The regime hopes that protesters do not stay peaceful so trump can amp up the military and put down the protest. Before we know it there will be a "Four Dead in Ohio" mess on steroids and all hell breaks loose. It's what a fascist dictator like trump is salivating about.

How about that meeting was to discuss what it actually was.    Getting rid of the WOKE in the military, going back to the PT standards of old, dress code, grooming standards, having all the branches with the same directive and direction, etc.

But sure think what you want.

What is happening in cities....

The over hyping and LYING by the media of what really is happening.   They keep saying CITY when he is just sending them to federal buildings and help ICE.   THAT IS IT.   Media and politicians are over generalizing and exaggerating.   Just like TRUMP is over exaggerating saying cities are "war zones".   Certain area's are.....but not the whole city.     You also know that the media and politicians are LYING when they talk about MILITARY and it is the FBI, DEA, etc doing raids on compounds.   They are wanting to push a narrative.   They talk about "chemical agents" to seem like they are using nerve gas or some military stuff.....when it is pepper spray, smoke bombs, and tear gas.  The "peaceful" protesters bear spray and fireworks are about as powerful as the stuff ICE agents are using.    But yeah.....media and politicians dont lie or push false narratives.

Like I have said..... if the Mayors and Governors would work with ICE and send local PD to make sure that the protests stay peaceful and allow ICE to go about their business without being blocked from moving in and out of the facilities, being spit on, shoved, etc.  Then the fighting between counter protesters and lack of arrests handed out equally (Portland) we wouldn't have this issue.

Right here in this article is proving my point about LIES:

"In one image shared by a Chicago Tribune reporter, a federal agent can be seen pointing a weapon out of a car window at a woman who was filming them. "

Was a paintball gun with pepper balls..... but they want to make it sound like it was an AR-15.

"Across social media, there is video after video after video of people being detained, often violently, by federal agents. In one instance, Kat Abughazaleh, a Democratic congressional candidate, was violently thrown to the ground by ICE simply for exercising her constitutional right to protest the agency’s presence in her city."

Kat was actually blocking an ICE vehicle from leaving the facility which is illegal.  But they don't mention that do they.

"Just consider what White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller told police officers in Memphis last week, “I see the guns and badges in this room. You are unleashed. The handcuffs that you’re carrying, they’re not on you anymore. They’re on the criminals. And whatever you need to get it done, we’re going to get done.”

The pretext is always fighting criminals. But it’s clear that Miller and Trump want to treat Americans who do not support their agenda like enemies. And I’ve got to say, the response we are seeing against that vision is actually really emboldening."

The author is saying it is "clear" Miller and Trump want to go after people who don't support their agenda..... but they quote above is going after CRIMINALS....  really??

yeah.... tell me media isn't the problem.

send more funds to a "Defund the Police City?"   Does that sound incredibly naive, or what?   Pritzker doesn't need the money personally, but Johnson could put in a new Olympic-sized swimming pool, and the city council can all get matching Ferraris.

So far, there has been only one city who has had "untrained" NG soldiers for more than a few days, and that is DC.  The residents there, including the Dems, seem pretty happy with the result.  If it's not broke, don't try to fix it.  At some point, if Trump's efforts in using the NG's are NOT successful, that would be the time to explore other options.  He had a 100% success rate in DC so far, so why not chill for a few weeks and follow the progress in Chicago, New Orleans, Portland and Memphis before declaring it a failure and moving on to something else?  Ever since Desert Storm, all NG troops have been trained in urban combat tactics, so they will do well as a police force.

By the way, Ed McMahon was a Brigadier General in the National Guard.  What makes you think he would have been qualified to plan a military operation.  National Guard generals are like the caddies on a golf course.  They can give advice, but the players don't always take it.  You might not also be aware that NG flag officers generally have training commands and administrative assignments only, never combat commands. When their men get called up to active duty, the solders serve under regular full-time army officers, not the general who runs the local grocery store as his day job when he is not serving his one-weekend a month in order to collect his government NG paycheck.

Which people were censored on social media..... Google, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.... All admitted to doing it.

You want to bring up the 4th.... and illegals/citizens.    Guess what.   PEOPLE CAN BE DETAINED when doing an investigation.   During investigations you are required to identify yourself or be charged.    ICE isn't walking up on the street and saying "show me your papers".   They are doing targeted investigations or coordinating raids with DEA/ATF/FBI agents.    The "snatching" people on the streets is a LIE..... they have warrants for these people.   The lies the media are telling the people is incredible.

the 10th..... States rights.    100% correct.    So where do you stand on Abortion.... do you think the Supreme court got it right by turning it back to the states?    Also right now Trump is protecting FEDERAL BUILDINGS which he is legally obligated to do when states fail to do so.   Also States can't make up their own immigration laws which I have outlined in prior discussions.   Also Federal government can withhold funding if they see fit.  Like they have in the past with such things like legal drinking age, speed limits, etc.

So again.... Which rights are being "taken away" and by whom..... not TRUMP.    The 1st amendment rights were taken away by the past admin.... and GOOGLE, YouTube, etc... those private companies admitted they faced pressure by people in the past administration to do the censoring.   It is why they had the lawsuits and were forced to do the apologies.

"The "snatching" people on the streets is a LIE..... they have warrants for these people". Um.... not always.

Just last week a Chicago judge ruled ICE had unlawfully arrested 22 persons without a warrant in the first months of the Trump admin:

“the Court finds that plaintiffs have shown by a preponderance of the evidence that ICE arrested twenty-two out of the twenty-six claimant class members without a warrant in violation of the Agreement and the requirements of 8 U.S.C. §1357(a)(2). The Court orders ICE to provide relief to those individuals under the terms of the Agreement and to pay the attorney’s fees that plaintiffs incurred in bringing their motion to enforce.”

Now ICE can in fact arrest without an administrative, or judicial,  warrant but only where they have a reasonable belief the alien will escape before a warrant can be issued. Here the judge found they did not, even though AFTER the arrest ICE prepared “administrative arrest warrants.” ICE agents carry blank warrants around with them and if a supervisor signs they can then arrest. These guys failed to do even that. Post-arrest is too late.

-So yes the Trump administration has violated the Fourth Amendment and statutory  rights of suspected aliens. Here they snatched these guys from a Missouri restaurant.
