I thought they had passed a law against congressional members insider trading last year.
I do think that many politicians view us as plebs, needing their protection and total guidance. I've heard more than a few arguements that technicrats should be voting, you and I not being educated enough to understand the reasoning behind the laws they are passing. My wife has a PHD in political science and she agrees with this in principal and has mentioned that its one reason why the electorial college is still being used. I'm not argueing the validity of this, simply stating that its a theory being passed around, and supported privately if not publicly.
The thought that our politicians need a better health care and retirement system than we do is against every thing a democracy should be. I think you'll see more petitions to have a popular vote on these items, including term limits for congressional members in the next 5 years.

... ... ...regardless of whether or not this exchange actually happened, and regardless of whether or not you ''properly attributed'' the source of your post, the facts remain that the president and the bought and paid-for knuckleheads who sit on their asses in both chambers of Congress are all selling us down the river and are becoming fabulously wealthy while we get stuck by the shitty end of their stick.
Your post only covers the aspects of this phenomenon arising out of the recent passage of Obamacare which we recently had shoved down our collective gullet with about the same degree of violence as a flick you could watch on a website with a name like "Throat-Abuse.com!'' This bill was passed only because of a massive program of deceptive public relations leading-up to the vote in conjunction with a well-funded program of bribing of legislators and overly generous doling-out of pork-barrel benefits.
Of course, it doesn't apply to them. Hell no! Do you really have to ask? No one is that naive.
The Federal government has essentially declared themselves to be members of royalty, with most of the privileges usually enjoyed by the inbred, horse-faced nitwits found in all ''royal'' families. This is neither the first nor the only example of this self-aggrandisement perpetrated by them, at our expense. For example, all of the gun-control bills now making their way through congress will impose draconian penalties for any violation of the law upon us should we commit them while at the same time, members of congress and the executive branch are exempt from the penalty phase of those laws.
Insider trading is highly illegal. Martha Steward spent time in chokey for it. Nancy Pelosi's net worth has increased by a factor of 62% between 2009 to 2010. She's still the Speaker of the House with no jail time pending in her future. It's neither called''insider trading,'' nor is it illegal when she does it. She's American royalty.
The Constitution that already addresses this problem. Check out Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8, sometime. Our government had been taken over and is now occupied on every level by an out-of-control criminal gang. It is one of America's greatest problems. There is a word that pointedly describes the situation when members of an elite, oligarchical class pass laws under from they are exempt.
It's known as a ''Dictatorship.''
