Liberal political sentiments prevail at the Toronto Film Festival?

Me, I'm agnostic.  But Sasha Baron Cohen can piss me off if I think about him.

Someone with the last name of "Cohen" is pissing you off?  Shocking.

Here's why : his goofy Ali G character is obviously meant to defame the Arabs, but no one calls him on it.

But spin this another way, Bob : what if some rascist redneck comedian invented a hiphop/gansta rapper character named Rastus Sambo?  His motives would be painfully transparent, and he would be conmdemed as such.  And rightly so.

The lack of any criticism for Baron Sasha Cohen for doing exactly the same thing as Ali G is telling in the extreme.  BUT NOT the least bit surprising.

It's the obvious double-standard at play here that bothers me, not Cohen or his silly act per se.

Was that clear enuf for you?

PS.  I'm told he was pretty good as the French racer in Talledega Nights {spelling?].

I understand that the Camelfucker Sand Monkeys and Babygriller Kikes alike are both utterly repulsed by the Ali G character. i know i am, purely on the grounds of his being an obnoxious asshole in real life to begin with. But you know what thats all about, don't you. (grin)
In any event, i'm sure you will be pleased to know that i have personally contacted my Mossad controllers at AIPAC, and they assure me that Baron Sascha Cohen is not only not a secret Mossad Agent, but that he's not even a homo sapient. They did mention something about him, the Bronx Zoo, and a hyperkinetic baboon.

At least you had the "decency" to use redneck ignorance as a basis for your comparison this time, which candidly is one i can agree with.

Get his damn name right. It's SACHA BARON COHEN. And Ali G is his "wigger" persona. Borat and Bruno are his other characters and the whole thing makes fun of the idiocy of Americans who speak on topics they don't have any idea about. Which I'd say this whole thread is a great example.

Why the hell are people in this country wrapped so damn tightly? Can't anyone laugh? Is that why we're all overweight pigs who take everything so damn seriously? Ali G has nothing to do with Arabs.  The character is supposed to be a "Wigger" from some crappy part of London.  I doubt Xiaoming has ever seen the show.  My God he has a one track mind!

The humor comes from him interviewing some of the most accomplished people in this country.  The character is a complete moron and you watch people like Newt Gingrich and Butros Ghali(sp?) try to smile their way through it and ignore his questions and comments.  Andy Rooney stormed off in about 10 seconds.

In fact, the Ali name is not at all Arabic, it is short for Alistair, which is a part of the overall joke. The joke is...never mind. If you don't get it, there's no point.

These thorns are not liberals, merely pseudo-liberals masquerading as something better. They have relegated themselves to the trash heap of irrelevancy. Kind of like an old car with the motor running, wheels off, no muffler, transmission gone. The noise is an irritant but there is no substance behind the noise.
