this isnt pro or con on either canidate because its been the same forever all most, did anyone catch the news report last night ,that on the mexican border, they be estimating 1 million people will be caught crossing this year , another million will get by, and alot of the ones getting through arent mexicans...homeland security ??.....this a problem in anyone elses mind??

I agree.  One of the fundamental characteristics of a nation-state is the ability to control one's own borders, and by that measure, the United States fails.

That having been said, whenever anyone wants to do something about it, they are condemned (usually by the Far Left) as nativist, racist, or worse.  Further, there are many on the right --- a view to which I am not unsympathetic --- who view immigration positively.  Couple that with labor unions that want to collect union dues from immigrants, businesses that want to exploit them as cheap labor, and Demoncrats who want them as part of the Liberal plantation, and it's difficult to imagine a consensus for border control.

I would like to see expanded legal immigration ... and armed guards shooting those who attempt to enter illegally.  Harsh, to be sure, but if you don't like it, give me an alternative.  I'm willing to listen.

Clearly, the folks who create all those opportunities that make the folks want to illegally cross our borders to find a better life are the ones at fault here.  Of course, an awful lot of those folks would be Republicans, you know, the folks who own the hotels, and agriculture combines, restaurants and ranches (hey, maybe this would give us a reason to execute Bush - LOL!) plus, folks who hire gardeners, nannys, etc.  

Note, obviously, I'm joking.  But it is simply unbelieveable that you're apparently NOT joking about shooting to kill at the border.  Clearly, these folks who are coming here are responding to opportunities that AMERICANS are knowingly creating for them.  How you can advocate KILLING them, when it is US who have created a system that incentivizes them to come here, for OUR benefit to exploit them for cheap labor, simply points out your arrogance and inhumanity.

when a method is applied succesfuly to solve a problem the next step is to apply the same method towards other problems.  It's quite obvious that James86 is not a proponent of the Gay population.

You are talking about shooting to kill many many of the poorest, most desperate people on earth, people who are simply looking for a better way of life for them and their families, and who are simply trying to take advantage of economic opportunities that WE AMERICANS are creating to lure them into our country.  Simply because they are desparate to improve their lot in life, and they CAN'T get into the U.S. legally.

And, in terms of sheer numbers, you would probably be killing maybe 1000 of these poor desperate folks, who share the same yearnings and ideals that made this country great, including hundreds of their COMPLETELY innocent children, for every actual terrorist that you would be preventing from crossing the border.

You should be ashamed of yourself.  I know I am personally ashamed that anyone who advocates this position could actually be a member of the same species that I am.

Oh, and, BTW, the actual Terrorists would almost certainly have access to forged documents and could probably still get across the border LEGALLY (albeit with falsified papers), if we were to impose this type of draconian sanction on ILLEGAL immigration.  So this is not only incredibly inhumane, it would almost certainly be ineffective as well.

It's reasonable to assume that terrorists could come across the border like illegal Mexicans.

But that hasn't been the experience.  The experience is that they get some sort of documentation - student or visitor status, and come thru Canada more often than illegally thru Mexico.

And some are US citizens or long term residents who got their green cards as infants with their parents.

I don't think we can lock down the incredible volume of international traffic that our economy depends on.  Instead, this has got to be approached as a police problem, rather than a nationality one.  I.e., we round up all those interested in containing terrorism, and go out an hunt down the terrorists.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about customs inspection of container cargo.
