Though, most of us who are fairly well-healed probably won't. As McCain pointed out, I feel bad for the service men and women who will be jerked around!

Every contract will be under the microscope for cuts. There is a lot of stuff to cut and this is just the beginning. Lots of fraud out there with illegal contracts and conflicts of interest. Competitors are reporting violations left and right.

Yes cuts are painful, but they are necessary.

They only cut I believe $85 billion in federal spending.. when you think about it.. we're $16 trillion in debt.

Both parties are at fault they spent money without figuring out a way to pay for it. I guess it feels great borrowing money until it's time to pay it back.

True enough.  But just remember that over the years it's  US as in "We have met the enemy and he is us!!!"  that voted for the folks who thru many congresses have gotten "us" into this boat in the first place.

U.S. Capitol official: Obama wrong on janitors' pay cut. :D

Quote:
All the folks who are cleaning the floors at the Capitol -- now that Congress has left, somebody is going to be vacuuming and cleaning those floors and throwing out the garbage -- they're going to have less pay," Mr. Obama said. "The janitors, the security guards, they just got a pay cut, and they've got to figure out how to manage that. That's real."

The president's mention prompted Carlos Elias, the superintendent of the U.S. Capitol building and the Capitol Visitors Center, to email his employees within hours of Mr. Obama's comment.

"The pay and benefits of EACH of our employees WILL NOT be impacted," Elias wrote.

I guess my sentiment for the government employees and  contractors would be...

Welcome to the real world....

Where you are judged every day, where you have to prove your worth constantly, where there are NO GUARANTEES that where you are at today will be there tomorrow.

Welcome to the world the MAJORITY of Americans have been living in for years.

You are no better than us just because you work for the government, so why should you get preferential jobs that are constantly guaranteed, we do not...

I bought a new piece on Friday, and the background check didn't even take very long. My office has managed not to go on a wild spending spree, and we've been good about pinching the pennies, and so no one in our office will get furloughed. I didn't notice anything else. The sky didn't fall. It didn't seem like it was a very big deal.

Will we be able to say this in 6 months? I dunno, but I doubt anyone will notice.

Now, if only we could raise taxes on the rich more than a few fractions of a percent. I suspect nobody will notice that either after it goes into effect.
